I've been using BIAB since 2.0 for DOS. Consistent upgrades, every year, plus additional purchases. I felt it worthwhile to support PG Music for a number of reasons. I also recommended BIAB to everyone (I'm a professional touring musician).

Last year I bit the bullet and got the 2010 Everything Pak. When July rolled around and they offered the 10.5 upgrade, I declined - it seemed like more of a patch upgrade than anything else.

I got confused when 11.0 came out. An upgrade was $179 or something like that. And I already had most of the stuff, so it seemed like I was paying that for the new version of BIAB (usually a $29 upgrade) plus some new styles that I didn't even know if I wanted. Now it's 11.5, and they want an astounding $379 to upgrade from 10.

What the heck happened to PG Music? I've been a loyal customer because they've been fair. Now it seems like the attitude is "We're going to upgrade twice a year, you'll have to pay through the nose for the same stuff you have now plus a bit more, and that's it Jack."

Am I missing something here?

- Russ

You are missing a lot. You make no mention of RealTracks.
Read completely through this thread.

Hi Russ,

Last month PG Music were offering special deals on BIAB for Windows. Unfortunately, it would seem that the Windows special deal has now closed (it was advertised as on offer until 7/31/11). Since Mac BIAB 2011.5 came out later than the PC version, the Mac deal is still on the table.

As John has said, there's a huge difference between BIAB 2010 and 2011.5 Apart from all the added Realtracks, in the 2011 version, the audio stretching routine was changed to a superior process. Apart from much improved audio manipulation across a wider range of tempos, this change also resulted in RT's audio files taking up a third less space on the hard drive.

At this point in time, it might pay to wait until the Christmas upgrade swings around.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. If you did upgrade now, you'd probably only need the UltraPlusPak as that has all Realtracks and Realdrums. If you have the 2010 EverythingPak, you would already have all styles and tutorials, etc. (It would pay to ask PG Music about this, though.)

Just to clarify the new feature Noel mentioned about "a third less space", the savings are even much more than that. The new RealTracks take up one-third the space they used to. This means that the entire program is only 35% of the size it used to be, for a savings of 65%, or in other words, about two-thirds less space. As stated, the new stretching algorithm is quite an innovation and it results in better sound, too.

If you can atall Please hold off doing any upgrades to the December sale. As usually happens the prices for upgrades are cheaper at that time of year. Please read the thread pointed out by Silvertones in his thread link as there has been a lengthy discussion on this with some people including myself thinking as you do that its gets increasingly hard for a lot of people to upgrade whereas a lot of people think its still great value.

"you pays your money and you takes your choice"

best of luck

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
