I am working on a song in which I have RealBand Audio Tracks already generated. I like what I hear but want to add basically a bass intro before all of the RealBand tracks kick in. I added a MIDI bass intro track to the song....the only problem is that all of the RealTracks tracks start a measure too early.

Is it possible to move all of the Audio track forward a measure? If the technique exists for accomplishing this, it would be very useful to know how to do it especially when you want to move audio tracks over a measure or two (example instead of starting at measure 24, start the instrument at measure 28).

I get how to move the audio tracks down measures by deleting measures and closing the gap...just having troubles going the other way.

Any advice would be great.

Thank you all.

Yes look in the menus. There's a command to insert bars. Computers off right now but it's obvious.

You can also paste a bar of silence using the paste command and selecting 'create gap on selected tracks' check box, just make sure to select all the tracks before using this method.

John's method was 'Edit - Insert blank bars into song'

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks John and Bob!!

Really appreciate the guidance here. For the life of me, I just could not find that path. Pointing it out now I see it.

All the best,

Okay, this is what I have learned from this lesson and tell me if there is a better way:

All I want to do is basically advance a single track by one measure i.e shift the whole track over a measure so that instead of starting on measure 1 the track starts on measure 2 and plays through the whole song.

If I edit/insert blank bars into song… (1 in my case) EVERY track in the song advances one measure creating a gap in the song - - which I do not want.

If I copy from a “blank track” which has no data on it whatsoever (1:1:0 to 2:1:0) and Paste that to the track I want to shift, the paste button is not active (probably because I have no data to paste).

With those to processes not working, here is the solution I came up with:
Create a completely separate drum “click track” which clicks away on beats 1, 2, 3, 4 for measures 1 – 4. (ah. Data!) I copy from the click track 1 measure of data (1:1:0 to 2:2:0). I then go to the track I want to shift over 1 measure and click on the paste button which is now active (it sees data). From the Paste Window I make sure I have Create Gap on selected tracks radio button activated and in the From data entry I put 1:1:0. This in fact pastes the click track into the track and the data in the track to the right of the click track is shifted over 1 measure.

Okay…cool....now to get rid of the clicks…
I now go into the piano roll window and highlight the click track data and DEL key. I have shifted my track over one measure.

That process appears to work for me…..is there a better way of doing this and I am missing the concept altogether? Once I got the process down it was no biggie, but wow….what a learning expertise.

Let me know what you think….

Thanks again for your time and expert opinions as I continue to learn this product.

This statement is not correct.

Create a completely separate drum “click track” which clicks away on beats 1, 2, 3, 4 for measures 1 – 4. (ah. Data!) I copy from the click track 1 measure of data (1:1:0 to 2:2:0).

should have been
Create a completely separate drum “click track” which clicks away on beats 1, 2, 3, 4 for measures 1 – 4. (ah. Data!) I copy from the click track 1 measure of data (1:1:0 to 2:1:0).

Sorry..the incorrect statement may throw you off a bit. I did me.

OK I see what you want . Very easy.
On the track you want to move. Rt click and choose"select whole track" now hold down the ctrl key and with the mouse left click on hold on the track and drag it were you want.
Just a little hint. In a lot of cases click on the "snap" button first. This way stuff will line up on the beat.

THAT'S IT !!!! Sweet!

THAT is a WHOLE lot easier and you have so much more control as to where you want to place the moving track (with SNAP not selected). With SNAP selected it snaps the data right to the beats within the measure.

Thanks, John !!!

All the best,

Mark

P.S. After reading my first post, I can see now that it can be read as inserting a whole measure within the WHOLE song thus shifting ALL measures which can be done as you stated with the 'insert blank bars in the song...' technique.

To expand on this technique that John explained above you can also highlight a part of the track you want to move / copy or use the FROM and THRU digital input screen to select the part in the track you want to move / copy , etc.

Ctrl + hold down left mouse and move that part to the location you so desire. A window pops open (Drag/Drop Edit) which gives you four choices to do with that move.

Plus, you can drag that track down (or data) and put it in another track if you so desire. The same pop up window displays prompting you to tell it what you want to do. The only thing here is that both track types must match (MIDI track to MIDI track or AUDIO track to AUDIO track)

VERY GOOD STUFF HERE !!!!

John, you opened my mind to ALL the possibilities that technique allows us to do and I thank you.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
