I know I must be doing something wrong but for some reason BIAB can't find any VST instruments that I have installed, such as IK Multimedia Sampletude Free among others. If I try to choose a DLL that I installed on the SSD hard drive (all my plugins and programs for MIDI are there), none of those register in the Audio DXI dropdown to add. When I do a search for VST plugins nothing is found but 2 PG plugins then get added to that short list. What exactly am I missing here?
In addition, I wanted to discuss some other guitar synths / simulators here and how they are similar, differ, used for different purposes, etc. but the post disappeared - another one. Is that not allowed here such as the name of a plugin above?
Thanks guys. Still trying to figure out what I have and not so simple. Trying to go through the tutorial in the manual.
-- Note: I don't have an ASIO PCI card as I hear that the M Audio cards crackle when used with a z68 processor because there are no native drivers. Not good. Not sure of alternatives right now and not happy. Using the built in primary sound driver which should be more than fast enough.

Go to: options/midi/audio driver setup/ Click on the button that says" VST?DXi synth settings, make sure synth track tab is active, click on the drop down in the first listing,on the bottom of the drop down click on " Add VSTi" then find the DLL and you should be fine. DXi's will show up automatically.

DXi's only show up if they are installed on the system (registered in the OS). Part of the nature of DXi synths.
VSTi's do not need to be installed to the system, just need to locate the .dll file as John mentioned.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I did that and nothing happened. Clicked on the only DLLs I could find that had the same name, e.g. Korg M1, Wavestation, etc. Reaper automatically found all of these when I found the folder and it worked. However in BIAB, it just didn't do anything and showed me the same dialog box again.

OK... I see here is part of the problem. When I substituted the Coyote VST, then it allowed me to use the VST instrument, e.g. M1. I was wondering how I could assign the VST instruments instead of using the general MIDI output using the built in GSM synth that is on the sound board.

I have never got any vst working in BIAB although the insert rack loks lie a vst instrument rakc, as found in Cubase its not. The behaviour I get is a flash of the name then the VST vanishes. I would dearly love to get things like True Pianos and NI b4 II working but never have. I think its a case of waiting for the next update. Whenever I psot about this I get told use RealBand, but this does not work either. IU am jsut stating facts HERE. Its a good program, but needs an update to the way Asio is handled, I believe one is coming.

First am neophyte in this area. One of our lady members, think from Australia gave us some links earlier this year. With RGC:audo sfz+ Vst synth software. http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/dosearch.php is the subject thread/s. Rachael was the lady and this is the specific link covering several VST's.http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/showflat.p...true#Post306111It does work with BIAB, and with some amount of tinkering was able to load so decent soundfonts and play them. It was of to the side of my current path of work, so didnt pursue any more. However the voices did sound very good, especially a piano voice. There are NO soundfonts in the synth, you have to load and assign soundfont/s to it. Yes did get it working with BIAB. Good luck, Seeker BTW....FREE download here. Soundfonts elsewhere ?? http://www.store.cakewalk.com/b2cus/productinfo.aspx?productid=35-cwsz1.40-20e

I have the same problem. I finally got one thing to work by replacing the default BIAB one on top but I can't get it to use sounds yet.
This is not something that we should wait to pay for 2012. I am guessing it either works (and might be unnecessarily complicated) or it just doesn't work.

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
