Hi, I purchased the 2010 BIAB USB hard drive about two years ago and then simply upgraded to the 2011 program last year. I just purchased 2012 with all the remaining Real Tracks and was wondering if I could just add those to the 2010 USB drive since there is still plenty of space on there? Also, how do I do that without installing each file since they all seem to be executables and try to load themselves onto my machine?

In other words, I would just like to add all the new Real Tracks to my 2010 hard drive to continue using the external hard drive as a place to store all my RealTracks and RealDrums.

Thanks!
Eddie Villanueva

I recommend you call PG Music Support. They could tell you for certain whether there would be enough space to do that. It depends on how many RealTracks you purchased with version 2012. I think it should work, though, since version 2011 introduced a new stretching algorithm that made 2/3 of the RealTrack files no longer necessary. The program only takes up about 35% of the space it used to, but of course there are many more RealTracks every year.

When you install, you will see several options. Install the basic program on top of your existing program, and then install the RealTracks to the drive letter with your version 2010. Or maybe you want to install everything to that older external drive - your choice.

Simply reformat the HD and copy the entire 2012 (from you download)onto it. You won't lose anything since BIAB updates are cumulative and will contine everything you had before plus the new content. Or maybe we need to ask exactly what upgrade did you get and how did you get it??

I have the 2009 EverythingPAK USB HD, and I just did similar to what you did (purchase the 2012 UltraPAK (download-only).

My USB HD mounts as H:\, so you just run the installers (e.g. realtracks149-154.exe) one after the other for whichever RealTracks you have missing, and let them install to (H:\BB in my example).

You can tell using the Opt. -> What Add-ons do I have... screen.

Mine when I started looked like this:
These add-ons are not found...
You have all of the Style disks (unless we've made some new ones)
You have all of the Soloist disks! (unless we've made some new ones)
RealDrums sets in H:\bb\Drums\ : (blank - meaning none missing)
RealTracks sets in H:\bb\RealTracks\ : 83- LA Hard Rock, 84- Lite Pop, 85- Rockin' Bass, 86- Blues Rock, 87- Electric for all Occasions, 88- 12-String Electric, 89- Northern Rock Ballad, 90- Jazz Organ, 91- Smooth Jazz - Sax Soloing, 92- Smooth Jazz - Trumpet Soloing, 93- Smooth Jazz - Rhythm Guitar & Electric Piano Soloing, 94- Jazz Guitar Soloing and More, 95- Jazz Rhythm Guitar: Bossa and Swing, 96- Modern Bluegrass Waltz, 97- Unplugged Country Swing, 98- Unplugged, 12-String & Fiddle, 99- More Country Waltz: Pedal Steel, Bass & Fiddle, 100- More Western Swing: Pedal Steel & Electric Guitar, 101- Folk and Country Swing, 122- 70s Soul, 123- Celtic Hornpipes & Slipjigs, 124- More Pop-Rock Bass, 125- Crossover Pop, 126- Fast Pop Waltz, 127- Groovin’ Jazz Funk, 128- Gypsy Jazz Latin, 129- Gypsy Jazz Waltz <snipped>

The numbers coincide with the RT .exe installer ranges. Don't forget to also install the DirectInput versions as well (mine only had about 60 of the 265 that were released for 2012).

After that, re-run the Style and Song Rebuild List functions since installing RT's adds a LOT of new Demos.

After conferring with the sales rep over my order history (which goes back to BIAB 2005 Megas), I've managed to get just about everything BIAB ever released, with the exception of some of the styles in Bonus Pack 2 for 2012.

One thing re-installing the old RealTracks did do was create more folders in the H:\bb\RealTracks - Demos by Set # (e.g. #40 creates H:\bb\RealTracks - Demos\RealTracks40 Demos) - before the installer was just dumping all the song files in the main H:\bb\RealTracks - Demos folder.) This doesn't mean a lot if you use the Song Picker anyway (since it's all indexed), but it helps visually distinguish which song demos belong to what Set # on the filesystem (before they were all piled in one folder).

The answer is "yes". I have the 2010 drive and I just purchased the 2012 version with ALL of the Realtracks. They fit with plenty of room to spare.

Thanks gentlemen! Totally appreciate all your answers. I had purchased the hard drive edition in 2010, didn't upgrade in 2011, and only purchased the download 2012 megapack version with all the Real Tracks. So, I do have enough space on there to fit the Real Tracks that have been released up to this point. I know that in the coming years I will have to purchase a couple of Terabyte drives to keep up with BIAB's constant updates.

Now that you have a hybridized drive. and if you're running the program from the USB drive, I suggest that you buy an second USB drive to back-up your working drive. From reading these forums for a while, it seems to be a a good safeguard.

All the best with 2012! You'll also be able to reclaim some USB disk space because of the new audio stretching routing that was introduced in 2011.

Regards,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
