Greetings Forum Friends,
I ran into a technical problem last night on a new song I'm writing. I hope you can help.
I created a the chordsheet in BB to run once through from the beginning thru measure 112. Next I brought everything into RB to add the vocals and other audio tracks. Although all the music ends properly at measure 112, the location line indicator doesn't stop until measure 114.1. The problem is there resonance from the reverb on my lead vocal track continues to be heard during measure 113 to the end. It's not a sound I want to retain but I can't make the song end at the end of measure 112.
I've converted all BB tracks to midi tracks but I have some RT so I don't want to regenerate the song. Also I do not have the 2 measure auto ending box checked.
Can you help me ... Make it Stop? Thanks.

It sort of does that sometimes.Might be because of the presence of the reverb trail.Just highlight those last 2 measures and delete them or fade them or some combination that works. That's what i do if that happens.

What the other John said. I was about to post pretty much the same suggestion.

Hey SpaceDog

If you open the AudioEdit Window on your vocal track in RB, can you see the "reverb tail" through to bar 114?
If you don't see it at first, you can expand the vertical +/- buttons until the reverb shows.

Then what I do is highlite the section I want to remove or fade and highlight that section.
For you that would mean between 112 and 114 somewhere.
Then right click on the AudioEdit window and you will see Audio Effects
Click on it and go to Gain Change and select either Fade Out or Adjustable Fade.

I find that feature is great for such things. You can fade the tail quickly, then cut the remainder after your fade is to zero.

Good Luck - Ian

Yes, this is something that noobs get caught up with all the time. Effects are part of the song, no differeent than an instrument. To the computer, it's all digital bits. The fact that we can see those bits as different things is simply due to the ability of the programmers. To the computer, bits are bits including the effect producing that reverb. Therefore RB is correct your song is not 112 bars, it's 114. That means the analogy to a tape recorder only goes so far. Those old analog terms are only there to help you make the transition to digital audio.

In a real studio all the tracks are first recorded dry for just this reason. They don't want the reverb as part of the track on the original master tape. It's up to the engineer and producer to add that later so if they think the verb should fade out faster they simply ride the effects fader on the console while they're mixing the song. If you really want to do things the pro way, you record your stuff the same way. Record the tracks dry first in Biab, add the effects later in RB. Noobs can't stand that because the raw tracks sound like crap. Don't worry, they're supposed to. It's having the ability to use different effects during the mixdown process and not be locked into what was originally and incorrectly put on the track is what separates the pros from the wannabes.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for your help. Problem resolved.

John and John,
I tried highlighting the track past measure 112 and delete, but the reverb trail peresisted.

Ian,
After I deleted 112-114, there was nothing left to work on, but the reverb trail persisted. However, your techniques seems useful for other situations so I'll have to remember that.

Bob,
I learned that tip about recording dry tracks a while back. You're right, they don't sound good that way but then the magic happens!

The answer is: I ignored it in RB, remdered a merged .wav file, and plan to truncate the .wav file. Lo and befold, the song stop at measure 112! It's a good thing a love doing this because sometimes the technical aspects drive me nuts.

Thanks again for all your suggestions

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
