Hey all,
Is there an easy way to take a stereo track recorded on the left side and paste it on both channels on a stereo track. the merge 2 mono tracks to stereo won't work here. Also anyone using a tascam us144 mk2 do you know the best way to record say a mono guitar on to both sides of a stereo track.

Go to TRACK - SPLIT STEREO TRACK INTO TWO MONO TRACKS.

You now have a blank track which was the right channel and a recorded track which was the left one. Discard the blank track and duplicate the recorded track. Now merge the two recorded tracks to a stereo track.

Use the same method with the Tascam. Record the track as a mono track in RB, then duplicate and merge. I don't know if the Tascam has a mono facility which would mean you could record straight onto a stereo track, but I'm sure someone else here will.

ROG.

EDIT - I'm curious as to why you would want to do this? Once you split the stereo track into two mono tracks, the track which was only on the left will now playback on both left and right. Just sayin....

ROG beat me to this comment. If it's mono, it's mono - duplicating a left side to a right side will not make it 'stereo'. What your problem likely is that you accidentally recorded the track as stereo, but only fed one side with signal and RB will treat it just like that when it plays it back. As soon as you do what ROG says to split it, toss the empty mono track and call it done.

The only reason to perhaps need more than one copy would be to process the copy differently than the first, but you should be able to do this with separate aux bus sends to two different aux bus channels (I forget how many aux buses are available with RB). Unless you really want to go crazy and mangle one of the copies beyond what you can do in an aux bus effect chain, the aux bus is the most screen space efficient way to go about this.

Oh, by the way, the next time you record, don't record the track as stereo, simply record the side with your signal on it as a mono track. You can still process it with 'stereo' effects, but this will be the easiest way to deal with the signal so you don't have to mess with deleting the empty side each time. The left and right input channels should show up as individual channels in your I/O selections available for recording. I would be highly surprised if they are not.

Yes, it took me while to make sure the track is set to Mono before i start, had to rerecord quite a few times but now i hardly forget. Afterwords you can then pan it wherever you want...

Thanks Rog, rockstar, country.....I really appreciate the advise and will initially record in mono. I did not realize you can use stereo effects on a mono track...still trying to figure things out, I am just happy I have it working. Thanks again.

Just one more thing -

To use stereo effects on mono tracks you need to go to OPTIONS - PREFERENCES - AUDIO and check the box at the bottom right of that window MONO TRACKS CAN USE EFFECTS IN STEREO MODE. You only need to do this once and it's remembered as part of your prefs settings.

I didn't realize that was something that had to be turned on in RB. Still haven't jumped ship back to PG so things like this are a bit of a surprise for me. Not something I have to think about in my current DAW - it just 'knew' that if I put a stereo effect on a mono track, that I want to use it.

I suspect that it's there to save some CPU cycles for folks with slower machines; something PGMusic has always tried to consider when they release their software.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
