I'm thinking of purchasing an AudioBox VSL 44VSL USB interface. According to the company this product will give me zero latency. I'm presently using a TASCAm US 800. I have it set to the lowest latency possible. Does anyone have experience with one of these? I would love to be able to record without having my head pulled apart by the latency effect. BTW I'm using BIAB, RB, and Power Tracks version 2011.5. Thanks to all of you who post and reply to the PG forums, you have really helped me in the past year learn to use this program.

US800 set to lowest latency possible must mean you are using its ASIO drivers, correct?
If not, you should be.
What exactly do you mean by "latency" here?
The TASCAM should be able to do the job, but that word means many different things to different people.
Often is a matter of setting Direct Monitoring properly when recording, or maybe it is delay in a softsynth, or?

Yes sir, I am using the TASCAM ASIO drivers. Well, I think I'm talking about latency, maybe thats not the right term. I'm talking about the delay in hearing the note played on an instrument and hearing it through the headphones. Is that latency? And you may be right, I may not have Direct Monitoring set correctly. Suggestions as to the best setting there? Also thnks for the quick reply. I cant tell you how much i appreciate the forums and their help.

Is the instrument a MIDI instrument or are you recording to Audio track with something like electric guitar?
Two different processes with totally different ways to troubleshoot.

Yes sir, electric guitar or bass. I do have a midi keyboard but havent really used it yet with BIAB. Mostly I am using BIAB to start the process then moving stuff to Real Band or PT. Probably more info than you need for this question.

What you describe is indeed latency. However, if you are simply recording guitar or bass there should be none .. unless you are playing through an effect in the computer. Otherwise it sounds like there may be something set wrong for your input/output drivers.
Are you using the Tascam for both input and output? Realtime monitoring should be available inside the unit thus avoiding any latency at all. (isn't it?)
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Mac, thanks for your help. I got in the TASCAM and saw how to fix the latency issue. I am really slow I guess, just having trouble getting my mind wrapped around all these things. Appreciate your patience. You just saved me 250. I'm probably the only one on the forum who didnt know this, but, for anyone else who may be like me and not know this. If using the TASCAM US 800 click the output tab, and click the window on the phones section, a window will open and then select mixer. This will work for guitar etc dont know if this will also work on MIDI, havent gone there yet.

Rharv, Just saw your post, thanks also to you for your help. I think I have got it set up right now, testing in a few minutes to make sure but looks like it will work. In the past year, I have stalked the forums here and you and Mac, Matt and many others have taught me a lot. Almost every time I have had a question Ive searched the forums and there was a discussion about my question. Thanks for sharing what you know with others. Thanks also to all the rest of you. Maybe someday I'll know something worth sharing.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
