Hi all,

I transfered a seg file from my desktop via a thumb drive.

Recording on the laptop HD, all went well for several deletes and saves. Until the last track.

I get this message: copy failed for audio save. Code 4. Another screen says error 248.

Any ideas?

I did salvage the work by exporting a couple tracks as wav files.

Thanks much,

Don S.

File - Open Backup

See if the most recent backup is good. If so; 'Save As' and rename so you have a good copy.

Thanks Bob. I had done that and got a recent file. Just not recent enough.

I wonder if using the thumb drive messed things up?

That shouldn't make any difference but you never know. This might also be related to the well known problem with RB that it simply gets wonky after too much work and needs to be closed and reopened. Maybe that bit you.

After I installed the new release versions of both programs I was working with Biab for the last few days with no problems but yesterday I decided to mess with RB. It wouldn't completely open. I got the main screen, it looked good but nothing was active, I could move my mouse all over the screen but could not click on anything. I had to use the task manager to force RB to close and upon reopening I let it open with the defaults but I still got the same thing I could not click on anything. I finally did a complete system reboot and then it opened fine. I don't have a clue boss, another mystery of the universe.

RB is basically a great program but it's always been a bit weird. That's all I can say about it, it's just weird sometimes.

Bob

That seems to be the case here, Bob. problem is that if I have any creative juices, they're are gone by the time I get things figured out.

Check that thumb drive for an RB backup folder and (possibly) a more recent file.

Dunno if it's possible, depends on how you used the thumb drive I suppose.
Send the codes to support and see if they know. A code as low as 4 could mean something as simple as disk space problem.

I hate losing work, and don't seem to have the issues you guys report. Then again I designed my system to be a DAW. Some people say 'I shouldn't need to do that', which is valid in some cases. But if your system is set up right, RB runs very reliably for very demanding situations.

Yes, I save RB and relaunch occasionally. Usually when *I* take a break. I figure if I'm ready, the system probably is too. Saving current work, and closing/ reopening RB can clear a ton of temp files and memory.
Doing things like using a separate drive for audio temp directory seems to really help. Have any of you looked in your audio temp directory to see just how many files you are creating with Edit, Record, Generate, reGenerate etc.? You might be surprised. Look at it while RB is running (after a decent session), then close RB and look again.
Those temp files are needed for Undo, etc. but can pile up. If you regenerated a section a bunch of times guess what?? Those files are in that temp directory in case you Undo back to that spot.
Sometimes how you work can avoid that, but using a separate drive can alleviate a lot of that.

Just some thoughts and ramblings

I remember someone saying that another DAW (Adobe I think) 'works' a lot quicker while inside the program, but takes much longer to save/close when done .. as it compiles and deletes temp files etc.
This leads me to believe something in RB is much different than that particular DAW in its routines.

I put serious strain on RB at times. I've also helped set up systems for others that use PT/RB and have been very reliable .. and it always involves a separate temp audio drive (for one thing)

I am running an older Dell desktop which only bench marks at 1500+.
Hope to be upgrading soon but your post got me thinking (always a dangerous thing)

Where is the audio temp directory located or what is it called?

Did a Windows search and no file found by that name.
Looked in RealBand folder and nothing by that name.

If found, can I just drag/move it to my external Western Digital 500 GIG USB backup drive or does it have to be on an internal second drive?

Do I have to specify a path for RB to find it once it is moved and if so, how?

Thanks

In Preferences > Audio you can specify both the path and the name of the "Temp" file

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
