I'd like to use some bluegrass fiddle for some Cajun songs, but they're all double time.
Can this be remedied somehow?

Danny C- I think you got this to work somehow.
All help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Percy,

What you need to do ...

When selecting the Realtrack, go to the "Timebase" dropdown menu and choose "Double Time". This is on the right side of the Realtrack Picker window.

"Double Time" means that it takes "double the amount of time" to play the notes back. For example, if a phrase took 2 secs to play normally, with "Double Time" activated, the same phrase would take 4 secs to play. The net result is that the phrase plays at half the tempo value (e.g. 70 bpm instead of 140 bpm).

Hope this helps,
Noel

Noel,

Thanks so much for the quick response. I forgot about those time based options. I'll always be confused by half- and double time.

In any case, problem solved in less than an hour. Can't beat it.!

Hi Percy,

I'd like to know which styles you find best for Cajun songs.

That's probably because of the inverse relationship between tempo and time. That is, as tempo increases, the time it takes to play a set of group of notes decreases.

Glad it was useful information!

Which is why I've always wondered how musicians in marching bands or the military can keep their sanity!!!

Standard US Military marching cadence tempo is 120BPM, which is also the default Tempo in just about every Sequencing and Recording software I've seen.

Two beats per second, many Drum Majors in the military bands learn to use their wristwatch to nail march tempos.

Jim,

Almost all of my Cajun/Zydeco numbers are even 8 and as such; I invoke the Zydeco1 and Zydeco3 midi styles. I always wondered what happened to Zydeco2- maybe I accidentally deleted it, beats me. For Cajun swing, BB also offers a few styles.

With all the ethnic and world RTs and styles already available, Cajun RTs can’t be far behind.

My problem is that when I see "double time", I think twice as fast, not one-half as fast (which would, I suppose, be "double the time"). Not exactly intuitive.

Late to the dance and all the tips above are what I try. But truth be known, in my case anyway, while I love BIAB I have never found one of the styles to be authentic cajun of for that matter zydeco styles that fit todays music within those genres.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
