I just moved over to a new DAW, Presonus Studio One 2. I had been using Mackie's Tracktion 3 for many years but they decided to drop it back in 2008. I've also updated my OS to Windows 7. Mackie still supports T3 in Windows XP but not in Windows 7 and even though T3 still works fine with Windows 7 I thought it was time to move to something more recent (as opposed to something better). I'm using BIAB 2012.

I save all BIAB songs on a seperate segment of my drive (C: for programs and D: for data).

I used to drag 'n drop both MIDI and WAV files directly from BIAB into Tracktion 3 but now, when I try to do this in Studio One, I get an error message saying that Studio One 'cannot find this file'. Drag 'n drop worked fine this way with T3 but doesn't work with Studio One 2.

As a work around I render instrument tracks to WAV and save in a folder and then import into Studio One.

I'm also going to contact tech support at Presonus but my guess is that they'll tell me to contact PG Music.

Can anyone tell me if they've had this problem with this DAW (or any other DAW) and if a solution was found?

I don't have Studio One, but from what I read, it is becoming more popular. Someone here must have experience with it.

The only thing I can offer is, have you explored the options in the BIAB DAW Plug-in Options dialog box? Click on the DAW Plugin icon, and select Options. Make sure Drag Audio is set to WAV. Explore if Studio One requires a Custom Drag 'n Drop Temp Folder location, perhaps in some part of the Studio One data files area. That is one question Presonus could answer. Perhaps the program has default or adjustable settings for where it looks for files it needs.

Have you called PG Music Support?

Good luck!

ps It's always difficult when the march of technology makes obsolete something that you like and that works. I'm facing that now with a ten year-old Tascam unit. I like your approach, to explore alternatives before it doesn't work as well as isn't supported.

Try dropping the file to the Drop Station in Biab main screen top left. Then when the drop button turns green, drag to your DAW.

Have Fun!

Thanks, guys but these are the two options I looked at first.

I made sure that the drag audio option was set to WAV and then I tried dragging the track to the 'drop' button and then to Studio One. Unfortunately, nothing worked so I'll wait and see what Presonus has to say.

I'm hoping someone else comes up with another suggestion. The long way around works. It's just a little more work.

I have one audio program in which I found I must first drag to any Windows Explorer folder, and then drag from there into the program.

Maybe that will work for Studio One as well, certainly worth a try.

I drag and drop to Studio One 2 quite often. Works perfect if you drag to the drop button first.

When you say nothing happens, do you see the file outline show up under your cursor as you prepare to drop it into he arranger window?

"then I tried dragging the track to the 'drop' button" Just a clarification but you are dragging from the instrument labels just to the right of the drop box correct?

Are you dragging Real-tracks or VSTi based MIDI tracks? Not that is will make a deference.

Studio One (latest version), Win 11 23H2 , i9 -10940X 3.3 GHz, 32GB Mem, a 4K 40" monitor, PreSonus Studio Live III Console as interface/controller. secondarily test on Reaper, Cakewalk, and S1 on Surface Pro 3 Win 10 (latest versions).

Whether direct drag n' drop works or not, do this:

If you don't, the resulting WAV files stay on the BiaB hard drive.
And the next time you upgrade, they will be gone!

PS: I know there is a file location path option - IMHO, don't trust it.
Besides, files should stay with their own each project.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
