I just received a Ketron SD2 but am clueless on how to use it with band in a box or real band. Can anyone point me toward a tuturial or explain how to set it up to play with BIAB or Realband. Also how are the additional voice banks accessed once the external devie is set up. Thanks

1) Connect MIDI Out of SD2 to MIDI Input of computer. This will likely require use of a USB-to-MIDI adaptor cable, which you can purchase separately, or if using an aftermarket sound device, it may have the connect already on it.

2) Using an appropriate shielded stereo audio cable, connect L & R Audio output RCA jacks of SD2 to the L & R Line Inputs of your computer's sound device. Many laptops do not have a built in Line Input, you may have to get an aftermarket sound device for the laptop and install it to have these.

3) Accessing the Upper Banks is easy enough, first, go to the PGMusic Support page, there's a hotlink to it at the bottom of any of my posts on these forums, locate the PATCH MAP for the SD2 and download that file, drop it into the main bb folder. Follow the directions given there to learn how to use the Patch Map to access the higher bank voices.

Thanks for the advice Mac. I am currently running the Ketron into my Presonus 22VSL interface which is connected to the USB port on my computer. I can get the standard MIDI to play with the Coyote Wavetable through the interface. Is the Ketron simply plug and play or do I need to set up within Real Band ande BIAB. This is my first experience using MIDI I find the directions to be quite confusing so thank you for taking the time to help a beginner like me.

If you have BB ser tu the "use DXi" checkbox in the MIDI/Audi setup window, you will not be hearing the SD2, you will be hearing whatever software synth selected in the DXi window, in this case presumably that would be the Coyote Wavetable.

The RH pane in the MIDI/Audio window, locate the MIDI output to your sound device and select it by highlighting. Then hit Okay. That should now route the MIDI data to your SD2.

I have followed the instructions so far and have gotten the blue light on the Ketron to flash so this means the Ketron is receiving the MIDI messages however I have no sound coming out of the monitors. Is there a setting I should be concerned with on the Presonus interface or should I use a MIDI to USB cable. Thanks

**Try p;lugging any set of headphones that will fit the jack on the SD2, which will allow you to hear what the SD2 is doing while a MIDI based song plays back. Compare that to what you hear (or what you don't hear...) from the monitors.

If y0ou have properly connected the two Audio Outputs of the SD2 to two Line Inputs, L&R of your Presonus, but still have no audio from the SD2, it is likely that you need to visit the Control Panel or Mixer for the SD2 and set it to the Line Input. Consult the Presonus manual for exactly how that is done.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
