I'm a fairly new user of BIAB. So, sorry if I'm missing something obvious.
When I've put together a song I would like to be able to mark where parts (verse 1 , verse 2, chorus 1, chorus 2, bridge etc) begin and end so that when I go into re-edit I can easily locate where I am.
There's probably some obvious way of doing this that I haven't stumbled across? Help please.

Hey Phil -
Simply click on the NUMBER of any measure. You will get a part marker "a". Click it again, and that will change to "b" - defining a different style.
Right-click a part marker and you will see the drum styles applied - and can change them if you want.
With some styles, clicking a 3rd time will give you a "c" part marker, then "d", etc.
If there is no "c" style, it will return to no part marker.

Hi FJ, Many thanks for the reply. Sorry, that wasn't quite what I meant. I'm fine with defining styles. My problem is, say I have 3 verses all using style a, how can I set a marker so I know where each verse starts and ends? It's not necessarily so (how did Gershwin get in here!)that every change of style marker = a change of verse. I often use style markers within verses to introduce drum fills.

I may - still - not be understanding, but it sounds like you simply want a visual to identify where your verses are (for example). If you have 3 verses starting at measures 1, 9 and 13.... click the 1, click the 9, click the 13. You will get 3 part markers (all "a").

Is it possible you are looking for Section Letters, like A, B, C etc. as in "the form of this song is AABA"?
In the Editable Notation Mode, right-click where you want a section letter, select Section Letters and then choose the letter.

Perhaps I am wrong, but it may mean he is looking for a way to define the part markers not in A, B, C, D format but in the much requested Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Outro format.
If that is the case, then I concur. If not then I humbly bow out of the conversation.

If Phil actually wants to write "Verse 1", "Verse 2" etc., then in the same way you can enter a Section Letter (see my earlier post), you can Insert Section Text Event.

Assuming that there is no choice to have words such as "Intro", "Verse" etc. appear, possibly the Lyrics window could work as another poster suggested OR...the user might just make up his own KEY...where "A"= "Intro", "B" = "Verse" etc.
Finally, I'm sort of sloshing around here but if the letters...A.B.C.D. etc. can be used, is the entire alphabet available? If so, then of course, "I" could stand for "Intro"...."C" for Chorus etc.
Best, Jim

Jim, sure, you can write "Intro" or "Verse". Check my last post. It will appear in Notation Mode or Leadsheet View, or on a printout.
By the way, I am assuming version 2013.

Firstly, many thanks to everyone who's contributed so far.
Oddly, Realband (which I haven't got to grips with yet) appears to have exactly the function I'm after. It has a Markers feature which allows you to place a marker anywhere. Unfortunately the markers don't appear in all views. But, basically, a marker function which shows in the chord entry view of BIAB is what I'm after!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
