Mac - I've done the factory setting thing. That box got checked by BIAB after a reset to factory settings.

That's VERY good to know about WDM/MME. I can try using WDM in Sonar and see if that improves or degrades BIAB performance.

Thanks!

Ian

WDM is designed to be shared between multiple hosts.

ASIO, unless is is the newer Multiclient ASIO, is not.

However, using WDM may result in a higher latency value than when using ASIO. This may or may not be important. If you are using software based synthesizers in realtime, attempting to play them on a keyboard or other MIDI instrument, the program in which you are doing that would likely work better using ASIO drivers.

There is no audio difference between the two, both make the same identical pcm digital audio.

Ian, I use WDM in BiaB and ASIO in Sonar. This way I can have both on the screen at the same time. Note that I only record in Sonar and never in BiaB; this is the way I suggest your workflow to be. However if you need to record in BiaB then you can use ASIO in BiaB and WDM in Sonar.

WDM has way to much latency thus I can not record with it.

Ian, ASIO in BiaB and WDM in Sonar.

This is how I've configured things also.

Growing up with Cakewalk (since 1994) and many subsequent versions WDM has just been the default for me.
I've never figured out if the efficacy of one driver is actually better than the other.
But, it appears from comments here that ASIO has less latency on many systems.

I'm pretty pragmatic in my recording process having a few midi modules, 3 or 4 vocal tracks, rhythm & lead axe and that's about it.
So, I'm not the power user that many may be so driver model (for me) may be inconsequential.
For the one song I have completed in BIAB I exported to audio then imported all tracks into Sonar X2.

Per previous comment I also right click/run as administrator just in case some grief may rear it's head.

Hope you're having some success.

Carry on....

Thanks Mario, Mac and chulaivet1966,

I appreciate how you guys are using Sonar and BIAB together and will certainly try and probably use your suggestions. Thanks much!

chulaivet1966 - I think that's a good idea about run as admin. I need to get in the habit of doing that!

Peace,

Ian

Does anyone know if it's normal to get this message?:

AND...

if it's normal for this box to get checked automatically by BIAB? (in file-save with patches):

Thanks again,

Ian

Yes. This message means you have selected a RD substyle and immediately overridden it in the first bar (by right clicking and selecting a different substyle). To get rid of the message either save w/patches as the message indicates or select the RD substyle that you chose in bar 1 for the main substyle.

I'm pretty sure you can select the behaviour in the RD preferences. But yes, it is normal.

Yes, that message typically happens if you have MIDI drums in the song, and then try a change at bar 1 to RealDrums. Since you can't have both MID and RealDrums on the same track, BB replaces the MIDI drums with RealDrums.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
