Wasn't sure where to post this. But it is a wish. I use BIAB a lot and am very pleased with all the new 2013 Real Tracks and super midi parts. However, I wish the programmers would provide an easy way to tame the loud snare backbeat on many of the country styles (Real Drums). Maybe it's just me, but I have more problems adjusting/mixing the drum track over all the other style parts. Got no problem with drummers---some are my best friends. But, I often scramble to find another suitable drum style to replace some of the default real drums that come with the demo styles. Check out some of the country real styles, especially ballads at say, 65 tempo, or medium swing/shuffle styles. Variation A is sitting there nicely in the mix. Now, variation B shows up with a loud wham-bam. In my mixes, if most parts are at about 90, the loud drum backbeat on variation B would need to be at 75. Is there a way to save these differences within a song? Some styles are well-balanced. I like the Nashville Brushes Classic Shuffle between variations A and B. Nashville Train Ev 16 is nice. Check this one out. Try the style demo of TBSW161 Teen Beat Sw16th at tempo 75. Set a moderately loud volume setting. Notice the drums at variation B. On my set up, it'll run you out of the room. This post is not a complaint; just an observation looking for a quick, easy way to adjust volume levels so that there's consistency throughout a song.

+1

The Part A marker rim shots sound great; for me, the Part B snare could also be cut back some for a better balance between the two.

Percy:

You could try this -
If you're satisfied with the Part A drums, go to the first bar of Part B, right click and select "Bar Settings".

On the left hand side of the window, there's a drop down for each instrument, including drums, where you can adjust the volume. Remember to change it back after the Part B.

This method won't help if it's just (say) the snare that you feel is too loud, but it will allow you to bring down the volume of all the drums.

The trouble (as I see it) with your suggestion, is that, there will be some people who think the volumes are fine. There's no way that PGMusic can record separate volumes to please everyone.

If I have a volume problem with RD, I take the whole file to RealBand, and try to tame the 'peaks' there.

Good luck!

Hello Lloyd,

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm using Nashville Shuffle ^2 RDs and tried reducing the volume at Part B, and as you already indicated, no help.

I recall a thread from a while back that suggested equalizing the snare and will check it out.

Or, like in the old days, I'll just crank up the volume on something else. LOL.

I'll try the suggestions, as well, and see what happens. Thanks for the responses. Real drums have been the only instruments I've had problems with in the mix---especially playing live. Often, I'll drop the volume on the drum track (variation B), while the song is in progress. Sometimes, to avoid the strong backbeat in a style, I simply use variation A throughout. However, I miss all the great nuances in variation B. Wonder if there could be a command to allow the other parts to vary with the B variation, while the drums remain in A? And, strangely enough, to my hearing, some of the waltz drum patterns are not loud enough, even at maximum 127.

I'm not at my BIAB computer now, but you can make adjustments to some patterns in the RealDrums by editing parameters in the appropriate .TXT files. Find a .TXT file for your style in the /BB/Drums folder and take a look.

Im having probs using quit a few of the RD patterns for the same reason.
The ones with a side stick in the A pattern then a snare in the B section are very miss matched unuseable in my opionion. Allso some of the RD styles have way to much room amb on them.
They wont fit with other trks
Love the ones I can use thou.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
