I'm desperately looking for Buckley's Mixtura, a Canadian cough syrup. For those who have never heard of it: it smells like ammonia and doesn't taste any better either. But it sure helps surpress couch and hoarseness. It is my weapon of choice against hoarseness when I've got a cold and have to gig.

But....Unfortunately the stuff isn't for sale anymore here in the Netherlands. I can't seem to purchase it online anywhere either. And I had to use my last tiny bit of the stuff on the gigs on new year's eve and new years day...

So here's my question: Is there anyone in Canada (or the US) who can help me to a bottle or two so I will be good for the next few years. I will pay the cost of the Buckley's and the shipping costs upfront. Please PM me and we'll work out the details.

P.S.
I know there are many alternatives to ease hoarseness. But Buckley's is the only thing I can rely on when I have to sing. It tastes awful and it can't be good for one to overdo the consumption of it. But it works 100% everytime for me. Over the years it has saved me several times. Imagine having a cold a being completely hoarse after your first set, and then having to complete 3 more 45 minutes sets of singing Tom Jones, Elvis, Bryan Adams, the Mavericks etc...

Mike, have you googled Buckley’s Mixture a Canadian cough syrup? This might be what you are looking for. It is in short supply due to a plant closing.

@John and Mario: I found the product, I found the manufaturers website, but I can't find a store that ships to the little piece of Earth I call home.

I visited Candrugstore, but they do not ship to international adresses.

Mike:

Sorry to hear of your dilemma.
If I was home (Calgary, AB, Canada), I'd go get a couple of bottles and send them to you.

However, I'm currently in Arizona until Easter.

These stores carry Buckley's. See if one of them will ship to you.

- Walmart, Canada
- Shoppers Drug Mart
- London Drugs (not London, England, unfortunately).

If you still can't get any, PM me and I'll find someone back home who can send you some.

If the drug store can't ship it to the Netherlands, there's a good chance it's not legal to ship it as an individual.

The Swedes seem to like things that taste/smell like ammonia, like salt licorice. Perhaps there's an equivalent in Sweden?

I seem to remember there's an equivalent candy in Germany as well, the 'cats ears' with the extra delicious ammonia flavor added in.

Mike, I hope you are able to find some of the Buckley's.

Perhaps no one will ship it because it is in liquid form. I found some Buckley's Lozenges online. Perhaps they would do the trick, and may be available for shipping.

Good luck!

Look for a formula with Dextromethorphan in it. Vicks NyQuil Cough Liquid, Cherry Flavor, may be an alternative. It used to be available via amazon uk so it should be available in the Netherlands.

Dextromethorphan?

Check out the pertinent side effects and etc. concerning that ingredient, especially if over around the 50 year mark.

CANADIAN SINGER'S FRIEND:

For times of winter colds, etc. combine hot tea water, lemon and honey w/ it.

Safer than dextromethorphan, older by centuries, don't overdo it.

Mac, I've used that (different brand), it works great for cough and cold symptoms, but it knocks me out. Probably not the best choice for a performer.

I contacted the Dutch office of the manufaturer. Strangly enough they could not inform me about Buckley's and why it is not available in the Netherlands.

Did some websearching and found out the product contains something hazardous to animals (!?!) Other than that I can't find any reason why it isn't around anymore (other than the horrible taste laugh )

I will contact the autorities and try to find out if there are legal issues regarding shipping the stuff into the country.

Mike,

Have you tried Entertainer's Secret?

We never leave for a gig without it. Nothing harmful in it either.

Haven't tried that yet. I know there are a lot of singers who would't set foot on stage without it anymore. They use it as à permanent kind of lubrication or reassurance or something like that.

But does it really help patching up à throat that is in shreds?

Yes, it helps. It's not just popular with singers, but it's used extensively in the theater as well. I keep a bottle on the top of my amp at all times. That fourth set can be a killer. grin

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
