Hi, I am no longer able to insert notes with a mouse click in editable notation mode. I have no problem with BiaB only RealBand. I had no problem with XP or Vista but recently upgraded to Windows 8 64 bit. I have reinstalled back to Biab 12.5 but the problem is the same. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Have you purchased 2014 BIAB and Real Band?? And do you have enuff memory for "64 bit" to apply nicely to Real Band.

I would think with all the improvements in 2014 programs that you would pay to upgrade to the latest. If you're using Win 8 with 2012.5, I don't really know why you are getting tripped up, unless it's a matter of not using the latest PG version with your Win 8 or 8.1.
This new version from Microsoft is like "the dawn of aquarius", expecially not only with PG's great new programs, but working easily with the X-Box Streaming Media, and the shortcut programs that come with it...only to lead you by the nose to additional X-Box programs that will make your other music data, very easily searchable w/ additional music listing programs that will make your day.

You've got Win 8 or 8.1,
so use it with PG 2014 and X-Box to make your "Life", a whole lot easier!

Hops you're not into Mac-based hardware!?

Hi, sorry to not include full details, computer is running i5-3330 cpu 3.0 GHz with 8 Gb memory and 2 Terrabyte Harddrive.
Latest update of BiaB 2014 which I thought was the cause of the problem which is why I reinstalled back to 12.5
Thanks John

Hi John,

Did you update Realband to the latest version? According to the link below, it's build 7 for 2014.

Hi John,

I'm not a Windows 8 expert by any stretch of the imagination.

One thing that I'd try, though, is to set the launch properties of Realband.exe to Administration mode. To do this, right-click on the start-up icon, select properties from the menu that pops up and then set Administration mode. I've noticed from reading these forums, that doing this can solve a number of problems so it's worth a try.

Hope it helps,
Noel

do any of these methods work

When inserting a note, holding down the mouse button and then pressing the Shift key (click+Shift) will make the
note 1 half-step sharper than the position that you click on.

Holding down the Ctrl key and then clicking
(Ctrl+click) will make the note 1 half-step flatter, and

holding down the Alt key will make the note a natural. Hold
the key down until after you release the mouse button.

You can also insert notes by clicking on the Piano or the Guitar window.

If you click on the Piano or Guitar
window, notes will be inserted into any open Notation window at the current location in the Notation window.

For example, if you click on middle C of the Piano keyboard, a middle C will be inserted into the Notation window.

There is a 1-peg hot key in the Notation window to move current time forward or backward by 1 peg (normally a
16th note).

Alt+left arrow moves the current time backward by 1 peg. Alt+right arrow moves it forward by 1 peg.

This makes it easier if you are using the on-screen piano for entering notes into the Notation window.

Note: By default, you must hold the Ctrl key before clicking on the Guitar fretboard to insert a note into a Notation window.
If the “Send Notes To Notation Windows” option in the Guitar Settings dialog is enabled, holding the Ctrl key won't be
required, but be careful not to accidentally insert a note when using the mouse to switch to the Guitar window.

does the delete function work

Notes can be deleted by holding down the Delete key and then clicking over the note you wish to delete.

if wondering if for some reason the computer keyboard is an issue

try unplugging and replugging the keyboard

are you only running realband at the time

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestions,
Shift&click Ctrl&click Alt&click all have no effect
Piano and guitar window both work which at least gives me a work round, thanks for that, but it doubles the input for adding a note.
1-peg hot key works
Delete function works can also move existing notes about using the mouse.
I have unplugged both the keyboard and the mouse and put them in different usb ports with no effect.
I am only running Real band on its own.
Many thanks for your help so far , there is obviously something happened between my computer and Realband but at least I now have a way forward,

there's always this

reset RB to factory settings by renaming the REALBAND.INI file and RB.CFG to something like REALBAND.INI.OLD and RB.CFG.OLD. This will effectively "delete" those files so that RB is forced to create new ones (thus the factory rest).

which considering the grief you're having.........

John,
Can you confirm that when you are in editable mode, you do see the vertical dashed-lines at each e.g. 1/16 note resolution on the stave?

Just a guess, but do you first change the Track Type to MIDI in Track View?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
