Hi, I have a 27 second clip of a partial song where the Realtracks guitar picking is distorted. After 15 seconds I start to mute the midi track so that the audio track plays solo. I would like to know what's causing the distortion and how to correct it. I'm running XP Pro on a desktop pc with a 3.2 GHz pentium D processor, 4 gigs of ram, a 500 gig sata HD, and an M-audio 2496 sound card. The clip is here http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=803693&songID=7310908Thanks, Cavemann

Maybe more info would be helpful
1.) Style, Key and BPM of song 2.) specific realtracks instrument (number, name) giving you the problem.
If you recreate it, is it OK? That wavering sound could be caused because another process in the computer (like anti-virus software) is grabbing too much of the CPU while RB is playing.

*Any audio effects applied to that track? That's what it sounds like it may be. Like an echo.
*Feedback loop going on from soundcard output to input creating a re-recording of the track at render? The echo-like timing is certainly within the amount of latency. Check your soundcard's recording settings, for instance, having it set to a "What U Hear" or "Stereo Mix" Setting could indeed be routing the output back to input internally and creating a feedback loop, essentially recording it twice or more, each time at lower amplitude.

Song style C Guit8 EV 8 110 Contemporary country rock, 4/4 time, key of C, bpm 110 Realtracks - guitar, acoustic, fingerpicking ev 165, #407 I've shut down Realband twice and restarted {once after reboot} and generated a new track each time and it sounds the same.

This is from a fresh install on a 1 month old computer, first time using RB and I've never added any effects anywhere. Mac, I'm not sure what you mean by "Check your soundcard's recording settings, for instance, having it set to a "What U Hear" or "Stereo Mix" Setting could indeed be routing the output back to input internally and creating a feedback loop, essentially recording it twice or more, each time at lower amplitude" but this happens before 'Recording'. As soon as I play it back after generating the RT guitar picking, it sounds distorted.

I had the same thing happen with the same patch. On my computer it ended up being my "plugin" controls. While it was playing, I went in and started bypassing all the effects until it went away. I don't use much effects on real tracks now except 10 band EQ to bring the guitars out of the mud sometimes.

If it happens as soon as you play back, by all means check to see if there aren't any realtime effects (DX effects) inadvertently invoked. Turn 'em off.

A 165 finger-picked acoustic might not sound too good slowed down to 110, anyway. Why not try #522, Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Ev 120.

Yes, the guitar is probably slowed down below it's useful range. Acoustic Guitars are difficult to stretch, and down is more difficult then up, so going from 165 to 110bpm with an acoustic guitar doesn't generally produce great results.

Hi Cavemann, The realtracks are playing outside suggested BPM range. With certain instruments e.g. acoustic guitar it is more aparent. Dave.

Unless you stay within 10 percent of the suggjested tempo you will probably have some distortion. Try playing the realtracks style solo with its proper tempo . If you get no distortion then you know that your tempo is to slow to use this style.
Another fix if the destortion is not throught out the whole song is to us the gain dxi plug in in real band on the part that is distorted.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
