Hi All

I just bought BIAB Ultra Plus Pac and i have started the learning process.

My question is,is there such a thing as a book or list of Chord Progressions anywhere?

I know the usual guitar chords but when it comes to something like Fdim7,or some of the Jazz chords
used in the BIAB demos,i'm lost.

How would i know what chords fitted with say Bdim or Emb5 that would make sense as something like
C - Am - F and G does.

Thanks

Alan

I think this is a useful link: http://mugglinworks.com/chordmaps/

Here's a page with a simple map and the big map in C: http://mugglinworks.com/chordmaps/part5.htm

... and the generic big map: http://mugglinworks.com/chordmaps/genmap.htm

This is not the final word in what chords can lead to other chords, but it probably covers 90-95% of the stuff out there.

That progression map is pretty handy.

My advice is to study some jazz theory as well. It really helps you to understand where you're going musically. Unless you play country, then you only need 3 chords and on occasion the minor 6th.

You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both.

The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

The best way to learn all the chords is to take lessons, (from a good teacher), and learn the right way. A good teacher saves a lot of time, because you learn faster rather than trying to pick up everything by yourself. I know players have learned by themselves, but they're the exception not the rule. Alan, that happens to be my favorite progression that I "borrowed" from Red Shea, Gordon Lightfoot's guitarist. Occasionally I'll add another minor (Em) before the F.

Many, many R&B songs use that chord progression. Later, Ray

We used to call that the "Cantor change". Some call it the "50's Progression".

I use that progression on most of my guitar tunes and then modify the results in BIAB, possibly transpose keys, style, soloist, and tempo to suit.

.
There are tons of lists, books, web pages, blogs, computer programs, and everything else about chords.

There are no shortcuts.

Take all of the advice offered here, and anywhere else. You already own the best music-learning computer program on the planet, so congratulations on that. Get a harmony book or two from the public library. Check out the local community college for a class on Harmony 101. Do everything, and be patient.

I started out as a guitar player. Ultimately I found that I could not get to the higher levels of harmony understanding without being able to do the changes on the piano.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
