During beta testing all I really did with the new style disk 77 was run through it once to check for any obvious glitches etc. I suppose like most folks, I was too busy trying out the 20 new sets of realtracks! But now it's February and I've had a bit more time I've had the chance to audition it in more relaxed times. All I want to say is don't over look it because it's midi only - that would be a loss! There are a lot of really good styles in here, as well as some hidden gems. A good example is UKPWRBAL which has a really excellent embedded piano solo in the demo - think Elton John about Tumbleweed Connection time, as well as really nice brass. UKBIGROK is a chance to impress your grandkids with your best Coldplay impressions. UKBLUE is a nice early 70s MOR/Pop sort of style with a really bright and airy B section. UKGROOVE does a better job at early 80s New Romantic pop than the styles on disk 52.

My only reservation is with the Ska-derived styles - the midi drums (which are the default) are a little bit hesitant (even transferred to Sonar and using EZDrummer) and the Reggae real drums are just too big sounding - the ska tracks are otherwise really good, with good (midi) bass lines and guitar stabs/fills, but they do cry out for a good ska real drums track. I did hear the Police were finished their tour - perhaps Steward Copeland could be persuaded to drop by Victoria for a couple of hours!

Anyway, hats off to PG - this is the music of my youth and it sounds really good. It will be overlooked in the welter of RTs, but that would be a shame.

Speaking of style disks, have you found any clue as to what's in them all, other than opening each one and muddling thru them? Is there a master list telling the contents, other than style disk 76, 77 etc?

To see what the style disc contains - open the Style Picker > and on the dropdown near the bottom right named - Only show style disc # - choose the number of disc you wish to look at i.e 76 or 77 etc.

Don't forget to reset this to All Disc's when you have finished

There are descriptions of all bar disk 77 on PG's website under BAIB add-ons I think. However, there's no substitute for auditioning them to my mind - reading a description of style disk is a bit like trying to decide what tracks you like on an album by reading a press release...

Jazzman: Thank you, I will try that. I have been bothered by that for a while.

Fifer: That is true. I'm working on country right now, so if it at least says something country, I will listen to it first before something else.

P.S. Does anyone know why a RT will not load to a track in one of my songs? It works fine on other stuff. I must have toggled something within this song for it not to load on any track?

I'm not at my BIAB computer at the moment, but there are options to enable/disable Real Tracks. Perhaps you've checked or unchecked one of the boxes for that particular song..

I've asked about this a couple of times and, as I recall, have not gotten a real answer (pun intended).

There is a ream of paper (it seems) documenting all of the Midi Styles. But, as far as I can tell, there are no PDF or Word docs describing the Real Styles or Real Tracks or Real Drums or Real Soloists.

Is this true?

It would be extremely helpful if I could have such documentation to read over and make notes on.

I agree it's nice to hear how they actually sound, but documentation would also help a lot.

It doesn't seem like a lot to ask ... or provide.

Well, ok, then I have a question.
I selected, from the drop-down list "# 7 Country."
But only one style appeared: C_CLANCY.
And in the "Category" column on the left it said "World / Ethnic [87]."

How come? Thanks.

Hi FBM

When I choose #7 Country in style picker I get 15 country styles

So it seems as though you have a problem with the installation of disc #7

or

the Style Picker has not rebuilt as it should

The other Country styles are of course on other disc #'s

The Catagory column on the left has no bearing on this choice as it stays on the last chosen in this column

There are PDF (or DOC or TXT) files in the various style folders that document the styles disks.

For example, c:\bb\styles23\StySet23.PDF is one of them (for Styles set 23)

Same behavior here. I just found that the filters are cumulative. To see all the styles for a given disk using that lower right dropdown, make sure the dropdown above it and the category at left are both "all."

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
