Hello to all. I have a situation in my BIAB song creation efforts - the Real Drum track that I use will have a cymbal crash, or tom roll, or some other drum sound occur loudly just prior to the countdown. This happens about 20% of the time

I only use Real drums and Real tracks in BIAB. I just bought BIAB 2015 and have not had it happen in 2015 yet, but I haven't done much at all in 2015 yet either. Maybe the 2015 update will take care of it for me.

It's not a huge problem, just annoying and sometimes very loud... Typically I edit it out in my DAW... or re-generate the drums in BIAB until it goes away

Anybody else having this kind of fun???

Thanks in advance!

I've had the same thing happen.

Only certain RDs.

(a cymbal hit...and they are quite loud)

Try: Pref-Arrange there's a checkbox there for cymbal crash. Ray

Thanks Floyd and Ray... I appreciate your taking the time to make your comments...

Floyd, I had one combination cymbal crash and tom hit (is that a flam???) at the same time that nearly knocked me out of my seat one night... I haven't been tracking which RD tracks are doing it, but if it continues to occur in BIAB 2015 I will. Again, it's not the end of the world, just a bit annoying and it does tend to mess up the song's count-in...

Ray - I couldn't find a "cymbal crash" check box under Opt/Pref/Arrange - wondering if that might have changed with BIAB 2015?... Thanks for your feedback.

When you click on Arrange, there's a check-box in the lower left corner. Un-check that box to get rid of the cymbal crash on beat one. Ray

P.S. I have BIAB 2015

I am glad I wasn't looking for a rattlesnake the first time around, Ray!

In my BIAB 2015 the box was unchecked - and I don't believe there's a way for me to backtrack and know if it was checked or unchecked in my BIAB 2014.

As I move forward using 2015 I am hoping to find this is a permanent fix. Hopefully these Real Drum countdown ambushes will be over with for good!

Thanks.

Playing around with "Pref-Count-in" could get rid of some sounds. I have it set for a visible count-in only with no count-in sound. Ray

I thought that Checkbox affected MIDI only; it predates RealTracks. Hope I'm wrong. Did it work?

I have it un-checked and I don't get the cymbal crash on one. Ray

Well I got my first Real Drum pre-click intro crash-boom in BIAB 2015 tonight... (A visual example is attached, if I've done the attachment process correctly). So my hopes of the problem disappearing with the New Year version of BIAB ain't happening.

The cymbal box Ray spoke of was unchecked... This is certainly not the end of the world for me and BIAB, but I do have to render the track out and export it into my DAW before I know if it's going to be a problem - and that's wasted time.

Tonight I went back into BIAB and regenerated the Real Drum track and the problem was fixed the first time - but I had to go back into BIAB and go through the regeneration of the drums, exporting the drums out to a .wav file, importing them into my DAW... to see if I was successful.

And perhaps the problem might be in my DAW? Or in the marriage of BIAB and my DAW (Reaper)? Just thinking out loud. I've had no other type instrument BIAB track do this (yet)... just the Real Drums.

Regardless, if anyone suspects, knows or stumbles upon a quick fix down the road I'd be very interested - otherwise I'll live with it - just like I've lived with some pretty odd human drummer quirks over the years! smile

Silverback,

Below are my metronome settings (found by "Opt | Preferences"). Try setting all the settings like mine and see if that makes a difference.

Also, have you tried "Return to factory settings" found under the "Opt" menu? If you run that, I suggest the "Most settings" option as that will keep you audio drivers setup intact.

Regards,
Noel

In Pref-Count-In try un-checking the Audible box and setting the Audible count-in to 0. Use the visible count-in only. I get no sounds before bar 1 doing it this way. Ray

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
