I recently changed my Digital to Audio converter which naturally changed my ASIO driver. Now BIAB will not open as it tells me my ASIO driver may be installed incorrectly. Yet, Real Band runs just fine so I am not convinced by BIAB's complaining. If I could find a way to bypass loading the ASIO driver when opening BIAB so I fine tune it's relationship with the driver from inside the program I am hopeful that might work. Is there a way to start the program in a "Safe Mode" perhaps?

Couple of quick reactions:

No Safe Mode for BIAB that I know of, but changing the driver to MME should allow you to load BIAB. I realize that's a catch-22 if you can't start the program to make that change, but you can do the same thing as return to factory settings by deleting the file in the /BB folder called intrface.bbw (note the spelling) Then start BIAB, which will rebuild the file with default settings. Not sure if ASIO is the default...

Is there a reason you need to use ASIO? Unless you are recording live and monitoring the signal, where you need to reduce latency, ASIO isn't normally needed.

What sound card did you buy? There have been other reports that some ASIO drivers are problematic in BIAB, but not many, to my knowledge. Have you tried calling PG Music Support?

Just added a MOTU sound card. No joy with the Firewire connection in BIAB which just froze, but the USB connection worked fine in ASIO and MME. Actually, everything froze with the firewire input.

I have not tried calling them yet and if I don't find a solution here that will be my next step. The hardware change I made was from a Focusrite Scarlett converter to a just released Yamaha MG10XU mixing desk with the nice Steinberg preamps and built in USB digital/analog converter. I don't "have" to use ASIO but my studio and it's audio systems also double as a rehearsal space for the band once a week. At that time the ASIO allows me to record quick scratch tracks of the rehearsal, use an occasional backing track from BIAB and monitor the whole thing live over my studio's very nice audio system. I will try your thoughts on resetting BIAB and see if does anything for me.
Thanks for the reply.

ASIO doesn't like to share.

So the first program that opens and uses ASIO will capture it. Everything else that gets opened will need to use a different driver.

I often get caught in this when I open BB first and then open my DAW which only wants to use ASIO.... it tells me that the drivers are not available.

Experiment and see if BB will open first.... before anything else gets opened.

Good call with file deletion to reset the program, it purged the last remnants of the old driver from the software and it accepted the new driver without trouble. I am back to work smile

Yes, I have noticed the same problem with ASIO but for me it's Spotify. If I have Spotify fire up on start it owns the ASIO and won't let the my production software use it. It's really irritating. It's even more irritating that every time I install new consumer grade audio software like Spotify, it assumes I want it added to the start menu. I just hate that!

Glad that worked.

Yes, ASIO is usually limited to one application at a time, which is why I asked about the need to use it. I understand there is a newer ASIO standard that overcomes this but is not yet widely supported.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
