This is my first post and I am a relative novice to BIAB. I have generated chords using an MP3 -- edited the chords to remove/replace the worst offender chords -- and chose a style which fits the original song which happens to be a RealTrack.
All of that is mostly fine. The software is reasonably intuitive for all of those parts and worked reasonably well. Certainly even with the "mistakes" on the chords -- BIAB still did this much faster than I could have at this musical stage.
The issue is when I wanted to take a bar or two and force a walking bass line. The style I selected works for most - but is not a walking style. What I did intuitively was right-click on the measure to walk and changed the style to one that always/mostly walks. Lots of previewing styles and I had one selected.
The issue is this: even though the style is changed and I asked BIAB to change the patch -- and anything else I could find to indicate the bass should assume the new style's personality -- the bass continued to remain the sampled RealTrack bass. I "told" the measure to change the bass track to a MIDI instrument.
I know a RealBand/RealTrack performance would sound "odd" if the instrument changed for a measure just to make it walk -- at least to an in-tune listener to a radio. But I don't mind the texture/color difference for my purposes.
Is there a way to change styles when using a RealStyle? Or is this a current limitation in the architecture/audio-rendering where only performances assembled in a single RealBand can be utilized for a given instrument?
Any creative "hacks" around this - like maybe have two basses - each with its own (different) RealStyle and rest one while playing the other (and swap the rest/play around to switch feels)? I know before I said I was switching to a MIDI style - so same idea applies there.
I did do a quick search for related topics and did not find one -- although I used google and not the forum.
... as an "oh yeah" -- although generating my own RealBand or RealTrack may be a way around this -- I was hoping there would be an "easier" before evolving to that step.
Also look up "Hybrid Style" in Help. That might do the job.
From my perspective, it seems that what you are after would be better accomplished in Realband.
Simply open the BIAB file in Realband and let it generate. Once it is generated, selected a suitable walking bass Realtrack and load it on an unused track. It will then be possible to copy and paste the sections of the new bass track and put it into the original track. (This is how I'd accomplish what you're after.)

Just throwing an idea here. Wouldn't it be easier to just cut that portion and let the unused track play in it's place on it's own track? That's what I do. PS: Noel, I love the suggestion(s) you make.

Although I have not yet implemented a song using the suggestions (have been still working on running through some other orientation steps) - the prevailing wisdom has been that changing a RealStyle mid-stream is not supported in BIAB and therefore RealBand is required to do the surgery.
Either using two tracks of two different styles and resting one style (or mute) - in this case a walking vs. non-walking bass part - can be employed. Alternatively, it is possible to borrow measures from a second track by copying over the measures from a second track and pasting into an existing track such that there will be only one track used vs more than one.
Use of "hybrid style" was suggested (something which does not require RealBand) - although this only seems to allow to mix and match different instruments from different styles and not, in its pure sense, allow for editing one instrument within the style. Just to try: under the "File" tool bar -> StyleMaker... -> Make A Hybrid Style ... -> Pick "Bass" and. This menu allows to "transplant" a part from another style - but not within the context of a given measure range. If a measure range could be assigned for such a style change - then "hybrid style" would work. However, this suggestion (using Hybrid Style) cannot be used to accomplish the task at hand - to change a single measure or a few measures from one bass style (R&B type style) to another style (walking line).

You can change styles by selecting the required bar and pressing function key F5
BIAB & RB2024 Win.(Audiophile), Sonar Platinum, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M Monitors, Pioneer Active Monitors, AKG K271 Studio H'phones
I just created a song where I changed RealStyles every 8 bars and the RealTracks changed (you can hear it); however, while you will see the style change displayed in the currently selected style box, you won't actually see the individual instruments change in the mixer or in the radio buttons along the top. Maybe an item for the wishlist.
But you can in fact change styles (both MIDI and Real) at any bar and it will play properly.
One thing to remember, though, is that volume, pan, and reverb controls are set for the track for the whole song.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
