Can anyone help me with my frustration?
I got Jbridge download in my downloads folder. Then I have to extract it and seems as though its worthless without
WinRAR which don't seem to be helping either. My computer is a very SWEET Alien Ware with lots of storage, RAM, big screen monitor etc. I checked just to make sure that I was running a 64 bit system. I have gotten as far as seeing the JBridge files and have also tried 7zip to extract them. Kinda frustrating! Can I just install 64 bit VST's without JBridge seeing that I have a 64 bit system?

To use 64-bit VST's in BIAB or RealBand, you need to install jBridge.

You should have received a file via email from jBridge with a subject line something like:

jbridgev1.72b - Your Name

In this message will be information about this particular release, along with the password you need to unlock jbridge.

If you just downloaded the latest version from jbridge's site, that is just an evaluation version, not the registered version. If you purchased jbridge, you should be able to request the most recent version. The email with the file usually arrives within the hour.

There will be a file attachment named similarly to the subject line, but with a 7z extension.

Save this file to your hard drive somewhere, then locate it using Windows Explorer.

You can unzip the file using either 7Zip, WinRAR, or WinZip (I just did it using all three). Assuming you have one of those installed, you should be able to right click on the file name and from the popup menu, select unzip with (using one of the above mentioned programs) and select unzip to "here".

You will be asked for the password (which you received in your email). Enter the password, and you will now have a new file with the same base file name, but a ZIP extension.

Right click on that file and unzip it again (to "here") and it will extract a new file with the same base file name, but a EXE extension.

Now, just double click on the EXE file and install jbridge. Once installed, BIAB will know about it and let you use 64-bit plugins.

You also get the bridger utility which will let you "wrap" 64-bit plugins for use in other 32-bit audio applications that support VSTs. Likewise, you can use jbridger to wrap 32-bit plugins for use in 64-bit audio applications. You should read the instructions before doing so, however.

But, you don't need to use jbridger at all to use jbridge within BIAB and RealBand. They recognize that you have installed it and will let you install your plugins.

If you already have the same 32-bit plugin installed, you'll have to uninstall it first, then install the 64-bit plugin (at least that's what I've found).

If you need help doing that, let us know.

There should be no need for a third party zip extractor, Windows has it built in. If it doesn't open by double clicking on it, right click the file, click "Open With" and select Explorer.

Are you sure about this? The jBridge file you receive is not a zip file, which Windows can natively handle, but instead is a 7Z (7-zip) file (which my copy of Windows can't decompress). My Windows 10 certainly didn't know what to do with it.

The 7z file does extract to another zip file (an actual zip file), which can then be extracted by Windows (if you wish). But my experience has shown you need a 3rd party program to do the initial decompression of the 7Z file.

Of course 7-zip is free (Winzip and Winrar are not).

I did try to do what you suggested and I selected Explorer and it said it didn't know what to do with this type of file.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
