Hallo Gerne möchte ich erfahren, ob es möglich ist, anstelle der vom mac zur Verfügung gestellten midi-sounds realtrack-instrumente ansteuern zu können, ähnlich wie bei realdrums oder vst-instrumenten. Sicher weiss da jemand Bescheid ...

Hmmm. BIAB-RealTracks sind Audiodateien, ähnlich der auf einer CD oder Schallplatte...
Ja, sie können angesteuert werden, haben aber im Gegensatz zu Midi ein Eigenleben und machen in den vorgegebenen Grenzen, was sie wollen. Bei Midi hast Du die absolute Steuerungshoheit, bei RealDrums und RealTracks nur eine Art Richtlinienkompetenz.
Sieh Dir einfach auf YouTube die diversen Videos an, hier macht es kaum einen Unterschied, ob für Mac oder Windows, im Grundsatz sind beide gleich, in Nuancen unterscheiden sie sich in der Bedienung und einigen Fähigkeiten, die in der Windows-Version etwas weiter ausgebaut sind.

Danke für die Antwort. Um Noten genau anzusteuern, müsste ich (à la Steinberg) VST-Instrumente ansteuern, um einen besseren Midi-Sound zu bekommen. In einem Youtube habe ich die Verwendung von http://www.garritan.com gesehen. Hat jemand damit Erfahrung? Die auf http://www.garritan.com/products/jazz-big-band-3/ zum Anhören zur Verfügung gestellten songs tönen vom Sound her meiner Ansicht nach zwar deutlich besser, aber gerade die Abteilung Saxophone ist immer noch nicht top.

Oh ja, Midi-Instrumente, die gut klingen, gibt es viele. Garritan gehört genauso dazu wie Spectrasonics, IK Multimedia, National Instruments und viele andere. Jeder Hersteller hat hier seine Stärken. Aber einer allein deckt nicht alles gleich gut ab. Der eine hat ein gutes Klavie und einen guten Bass, der andere ein gutes Streichensemble und der dritte wiederum hat ausgewiesene Stärken in der Percussion. Die Konzentration auf ein Instrument schwächt natürlich die Konzentration auf ein anderes.
Midi hat Stärken, die von den RealTracks in BIAB nicht erreicht werden können -- wie auch umgekehrt. Hier musst Du einfach testen, probieren, Fehler machen und Erfolgserlebnisse sammeln.
Ach Ja, ich habe mit den Instrumenten von Garritan noch keine Erfahrung. Da müssen andere ran. Kommt vielleicht in ein, zwei Jahren. Da muss ich zuerst noch ein paar Kreuzerchen sparen...

Beim nochmaligen Lesen -- nur zur Klarstellung: VSTi sind zwar oft digitalisierte Aufnahmen echter Instrumente, aber sie sind keine RealTracks. Die RealTracks von BIAB sind von Musikern gespielte Sequenzen, von denen sich BIAB die 'raussucht, die nach Meinung von BIAB zu den von Dir vorgegebenen Akkorden gut passen.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
