Hi all,
I just bought a new qwerty keyboard and I am having trouble. It functions, but has the American layout instead of the UK layou7t I need (as shown by the buttons). I only have one language pack and this is UK English. The Region is set to UK, but still this keyboard is responding with the wrong layout the 'at' sign is ".
I tried the registry hack that Microsoft advises, no luck, still wrong
Googling doe not (yet) help

Usually, keyboards -- according to my limited knowledge -- give back a number of the key that is pressed. (In earlier years I wrote programmes in assembler language.) Your language pack just interprets the number into the glyph on the screen.
In Switzerland at first I have had a German keyboard. I did have to ignore the print on the keys. Back in Germany I used a Swiss keyboard at first. Since my wife could not cope with the Swiss settings I switched to a German keyboard. I never had problems with keyboards, as in programming I used the US language settings. It was just easier for some typing. The keyboard layout was still local national.
Did you get a driver with the keyboard that identifies it for your computer as a US layout keyboard?

I do like a wired keyboard and use the one from Asda that costs £6, works fine, have a few of them just in case.

Imagine my frustration when I was in Argentina and needed to use a computer down there for email......
it was set up as a Spanish keyboard.... aye carramba!!!

Musiclover Sorry but my wife will not allow me in ASDA, you see she is not working class, and I might be seen in the street with one of their carrier bags. I can only use Waitrose, or John Lewis carrier bags. I myself am as working class as a cockney sparrow, cor matey blimey watcha I hope the Americans understand what I mean, It's an upstairs downstairs thing. She has an Ipad

This one. As I stated, I solved the problem. I have deleted the UK pack and installed the '"ínternational american" pack.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
