I’m using BIAB 2009.5 (for simplicity) and 2014. Is there a simple method for extracting the root melody or tonic note, from a chordal rendition, aside from manually editing/deleting all others? I also Use Finale 2002 & 2014 where extracting parts can be done, but filtering, as I’ve indicated, isn’t any simplier than doing a manual edit.

I would think, by now. an easier method of doing this would be possible, unless, I missed this? I saw an option in BIAB 2014, by right clicking on the melody button from the menu, which I checked “Force Track to simple arrangement Melody,” but it still displays the whole chord irregardless when viewed tn the single melody, from the Notation View Mode???

Thanks, if you can shed light on this,
wrkinit

wrkinit,

I'm not sure that I fully appreciate what you are trying to do. Mostly the Bass track is where to look for the root note. If you have selected a style that is either midi or notated Realtrack then you will be able to extract the bass line as a single track.

If the above doesn't answer your question, it would be good if you could give an example of what you'd like to accomplish and why. That will help.

Regards,
Noel

Perhaps use a piano roll mode, and highlight all but the bass note, then delete?

The song is located in the file area of the Yahoo BIAB users group. The melody is chordal and displays on separate staves when you use the Notation view, as well as all the other harmony or chordal notes. I can’t figure out how to display and print just the top melody as shown, but it doesn’t allow separating just the 1 and not the rest, without having to manually edit out all the other chordal/harmonics. I create simple lead sheets with lyrics for casual stuff/playing..

A sad commentary on the ageing process. I found the lead sheet for the song You’ve Changed, this I had previously done...sigh, in light of failing eyesight and my now unwillingness in luggin’ around fake books & sheet music, I’m spending my time these days memorizing songs. I’m converting what I have to pdf. Just in case I need to recall things. It’s a lot easier to travel with those, especially on my cell or pc/tab. Using the piano view, and high-lighting what's desired or not is the issue. A simple button with filtering would be easier instead, for a "single" track, like this. JMO

Normally, when I enter the Notation view it often displays a Set button where you see the separate tracks & channels and where you can move back and forth to the soloist track. In this case, it's on a single track and channel.

As in most things of late, I revisited this issue and found from the main screen, by using The Leadseet window [alt W] button, it displays all the chordal notes on separate staves and then by selecting the [Opt] button in the upper left corner, you can Remove the Harmony display (Melody and Soloist only), as well as, by checking the box to send to seperate tracks. This enables the display to render as per your selections..So this resolves that issue.

Hopefully, this might help someone else? BTW, I used 2009.5.

Still,

You can D/L it from the BIAB Yahoo users group in the files section. It’s in _y.zip (You’ve Changed). Another resource is the search engine “Searching The Internet For A Certain File”.

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo
http://www.manythings.org/midi/search.html

These are very useful, but be forewarned, some suggested sites from the net can possibly be problematic. I always check my downloads and delete cookies, just to be safe. The BIAB forum is pretty secure ,informative, and monitored, usually.

Bright Moments,
WRKINIT.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
