I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before, I just don't know.

Why is there a limit when chords are entered manually. For example, if I enter the text string, "Dsus.bdpg,D.bdpg" in the entry at the 1 and 2 beat of the measure, it becomes "Dsus.bdpg, D.bdp" in the chord display. It truncates the last "g" right off and plays like you never entered the "g" too. This problem can be manually corrected by going into the chord settings dialogue box and making adjustments, but that's a bit of a pain. It's appears that the maximum number of characters allowed for entry appears to be around 15. Why not allow as much as will actually can be displayed? When you use the chord setting input panel it can cram "Dsus.bdpg,Dmaj7.bdpg" into the chord display "block" without any problem. So it is not limited to 15 characters in the display and it does play properly.

Has anyone else noticed this? Perhaps it's already included in an upcoming patch.

You seem to have a point. Does the same on my display. I haven't tried setting the font for display to something different (or the number of chords displayed on one screen) to see if that changes anything.
As a work around you might try using the Bar Settings and muting the instrument(s) you don't want to play rather than taking up the space to type the instrument letters. Might not work for you if you are trying to rest at only certain beats and not whole measures.
Good luck.

I hope this question does not deter from the original post, but I can't seem to figure out an "easier" way to display 3 chords in a waltz where only 2 notes are played.

The song I'm using is Emily by Johnny Mandel. The example I'll refer to is bar 34 where Db,Fm6, Fm7 are played against a "2 beat" half note g, and a "1 beat" f quarter note.

The only way I was able to figure out how to display the 3 chords was to make the 2 beat (g) into 2 quarter notes, then enter the additional chord, then go back and tie the 2 g's together, thus causing the program to display the 2 g's as one half note, and then the f (quarter note).

Is there another or a simplier way to do this? I looked for a display feature in the notation function that makes this happen to no avail.

An Inquiring mind would like to know,
wrkinit

Yeah Wrkit, your question does tend to change the purpose of the original post. Probably should start your own thread so folks can respond to your particular question.

BarryKJ, I am trying to mute on the beat, so bar settings won'tt quite cut it. This issue is related to the character length of the entry field, so changing the font size shouldn't have any effect.

Given that no one has proposed a solution that works, I think it's safe to assume that this is a minor programming inconsistency that the programmers haven't had brought to their attention before. The functionality is all there, so it looks like it's just being limited by a field length limit in the coding for the chord entry blocks.

I'll watch to see if Peter and his team pick this up in future patches.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
