Hi - I'm back with my third song in Band-In-A-Box. This one is softer - its my first use of the fingerpicking style in Band-In-A-Box (I will need to practice to be able to actually play it well!). I generated all of the music with Band-In-A-Box and I recorded my vocals directly into BIAB. Thank you again PG Music for making Band-In-A-Box, it has truly changed my life! Link in Soundcloud: WarmthAs always, I look forward to hearing your feedback! This has a pleasant, meditative feel! I think some other instrumentation would help keep it interesting. It works well often to build, and then strip it down and start over. ENjoyed it! Take care. Greg

Thanks for the feedback Greg - I was considering adding more to it (or even removing a chorus) because I was worried it might not have enough interest. It's my first mellow song, it's my longest song and this is how it came out of me (and BIAB!), so I left it as is. I'll think about changes - curious to hear more opinions, too.

Hi Adam! Your intro says this is your 3rd submission, but its the first one I've seen (have been away from the forum until recently)
First of all I agree with your observation about the value BIAB adds to the lives of people like us, who have ideas we want to put to music! Glad to meet another person who has fallen in love with the software we all love!
You have an interesting indie soloist sound... I can totally imagine wandering into a music venue and hearing this song being performed by the person on stage! And in the final analysis, music is about entertaining people! I think you are going in a good direction, and I look forward to hearing more from you!

Thank you so much Pat - that is really encouraging. I get so much out of the entire process - from composing to recording/mixing to posting and hearing feedback. Each stage of the process is exhilarating. The feedback from this forum continues to impress me and makes me want to get better and create more music. Thanks again!

Hello Adam I like your song. Well played and sung. Good lyrics too; very intimate.
Have you ever think to a version with a second part of the song where you can insert drums, bass and a guitar solo in the end?
I think it could be perfect!
Otherwise I also like it like you made it.
Sergio

Hey Sergio - glad you like the song - thanks! I will try to play around with another version that includes some other instruments. I think Greg had a similar thought - I'll give it a shot and see if I can come up with something good...

I think this is great. I would try pulling it into Real Band and bringing the vocals up about 2 notches and use PG reverb and PG echo from the drop down menu under edit VST on the vocal track.
(I am sure you know you can open a BIAB file into Real Band and everything is right there. Usually, you need to do an audio gain change on each track first to fatten the tracks up a bit.)
If you have never done this just widen the track by clicking on the line that separates it from the next track and open it up. Then open up edit Vst by clicking.
Fool around with all of the PG music VSTs if you haven't already. the 10 band equalizer is great for tweaking drums. I am sure you already do this, but it is fun to see what each one of them can do to a track. There is a lot there.
Great song man.

Thanks David - it makes me happy to hear that you think the song is great! I must confess that I have never even opened Real Band - guess it is time for me to learn. I'll check it out. Thank you for the advice.

Ah, Dude...open Real Band, study it and make it your friend. For what you do it is marvelous. Compose in BIAB. Save BIAB. Open BIAB file from Real Band and save as a seq. file (important.) Then get used to basic functions like audio effects (under track edit.) Audio effects/gain change in the individual real tracks is often a great idea--and using those effects plugins under edit/VST. If you have the free amplitube learn how to use it. The basic amps and pedals are awesome. All you need. For the type of music you do, you can do EVERYTHING in the world with just Real Band and Band in a Box. Experiment and study it carefully. It can do A LOT. Or you can be like me and order 136 other VSTS and go insane. But that is for next year.

Great song man. You don't have to widen the track to get to the effects. Click the down arrow under the track number the effects area will be visible. Click it again and it will close up the effects area. You can also just click the fx button near the volume control and this opens up the effects window directly. I find the fx button the quickest way. In addition to this if there are any effects on the track the fx button will be blue, if not it is grey. Hope that helps.

What's that style I love it! I started with _ELECROK.STY (ElecRock RealTrks guits (120 RS)) Then I removed everything except for the electric rhythm guitar, I added the acoustic fingerpicking track and I slowed the tempo down to 95.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
