Sam Hacker (Wiensam), forummember, expat Brit from Vienna and fellow musician is no longer wih us. I don't know the how, what or when. I read on his Facebook page that he has passed away.

Sam was pretty active on the PG music forums and has been a beta-tester for some time. We have spoken several times over the telephone and once, when he was here in the Netherlands, he visited a gig I did. I got to know him as a warm person and we had a lot of laughs. He had a characteristic low, raspy voice wich suited the repertoire of Johny Cash perfectly.

Sorry to be the bringer of this sad news, but I thought I had to let you know.

I remember him well as quite a character which came across in the forums by his writing and contribution. There were some videos of him I recall performing at a biker bar or church service of some kind. He was also an actor and stage performer. A character indeed. May he rest in peace.

May Wiensam rest in piece. I never met him personally, but we had a few private message chats over the years. Sad news, indeed.

So sad to hear about Sam (real name Simon Heathcote-Parker). I also communicated with him in earlier times and was just thinking about him a couple of weeks ago.
I recall that one of our forum members (whose name escapes me - a young lady from Germany or Austria who plays gypsy guitar) lived relatively closeby to Sam, and I understand that they did meet up on occasions.

Thanks for letting us know, Mike.

Yes, Sam was a most colorful character.

You are thinking of forum member and Vienna resident Sandra Sherman.

I remember several circuitous PMs with Sam. Great memories.

Sam and I developed enough of a relationship that we communicated by private email. I stopped hearing from him years ago, though. I recently found his profile on Facebook and sent a message, but never heard back. He was always interesting, and I am sorry to see him go. What more is known about his death?

I think Simon (Sam) was a relatively young man. 40-ish! Wow! Where does that leave me and Bob Dylan at 75?

I believe he was older than that, perhaps around 60. This is from something he said many years ago and I may have remembered it wrong (because I'm well older than that).

Many of us on the forum are getting old enough that such announcements are bound to become more and more common as time marches on.

I liked WienSam, and I certainly hope he rests in peace. But now my thoughts are more on the people who are still here.

I hope everybody on the forum seriously considers attending the 2017 forum get together in New York. You never know when the opportunity to meet someone might end.

Great talent especially minicking all different accents from different countries.

Will miss him on forum.

A further clue: Sam graduated from a London high school in 1977. That would make him about 57, 58.

Now, that's closer to my estimation! I think he mentioned his age once early on.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
