I have BIAB 2011 on Win XP. It has worked fine for years. Today when I try to run BIAB, all I get is the BIAB icon and the letters "bbw".
I've reinstalled, uninstalled and reinstalled. Both give the same results?
Anyone have a sloution? 'BBW" brought up zero search results.

Petimar,
Have a look in your \bb directory for a file called BBW.EXE as this is the file that drives the program. If you double-click on that, the program should start.
Let us know how you go.
It might be that you need to re-link BBW.EXE to your shortcut. If that's the case, simply...
1. right-click on the shortcut
2. select properties
3. navigate to \bb and select BBW.EXE
4. click OK and exit
Regards, Noel

Hi,
If Noel's trick doesn't get it to open normally, please try deleting the files "intrface.bbw" and "mysetup.dk" from the Band-in-a-Box folder (usually C:\BB). This returns Band-in-a-Box to factory settings, and usually fixes the problem you've described right away.
When you uninstall Band-in-a-Box, those files are left behind, that's why it didn't solve your problem. Deleting the BB folder before reinstalling likely would have done the trick, as those settings files would have been deleted.
Thanks Kent PG Music

Hi Noel and Kent,
Thanks for the help. However neither worked. Still getting "bbw" only when trying to run the program from my desktop icon.
I am only able to run BIAB from the BIAB hard drive by navigating to the hard drive and starting it that way. Any other suggestions?

Petimar, It sounds like the simplest way to get a working desktop shortcut is to create a new one and delete the old one. I've had a look around the net and the below article from Microsoft gives one way of creating a new desktop shortcut in XP and linking it to the startup file. Create a desktop shortcutRegards, Noel

The same "BBW" happens when I click "bbw.exe", the problem is not the desktop icon.
Can't get BIAB workking unless I start it from the BIAB hard drive. I'd really prefer not to have to do it that way.

Petimar,
I'm note quite following what you mean. When you say "the problem is not the desktop icon" and that you can only "start it from the BIAB hard drive", it sounds to me that the the desktop shortcut is not working properly. Am I misinterpreting something?
Do you have a full installation of BIAB on your computer or do you run it entirely from your USB drive?
Also...
There should be a shortcut under the Start menu, too. Have you tried that? I know that my BIAB installation puts a shortcut for BIAB and RB, there. It's a folder called Band In A Box.
Regards, Noel

I have BIAB installed fully on my computer and have started it for years by clicking the desktop icon, no problem. When I purchased BIAB, it came on a hard drive and I installed it fully to my computer so I wouldn't have to use the hard drive.
Starting about a week ago:
1. When I click the desktop icon I get "bbw".
2. If I navigate to \bb and select BBW.EXE and click it, I get "bbw".
I deleting the files "intrface.bbw" and "mysetup.dk" from the Band-in-a-Box folder. I still get "bbw" using 1 and 2.
The only way I can get BIAB to start is by hooking up the BIAB hard disk. I have reinstalled from the hard drive, same results on 1 and 2.
Hope this clears it up. Anyone?

Perhaps call Support and ask them to please remote in to your computer?

"I try to run BIAB, all I get is the BIAB icon and the letters "bbw"" "When I click the desktop icon I get "bbw"."
Can you send a screen shot of what you get: Hit the PrtScr button on your keyboard Open Paint and paste or Ctrl+V Save it and attach it below in File Manager when you post a reply.
You can try and rename C:\bb to C:\bb-old now go to the external drive right click on X:\bb folder copy now go to C:\ and paste and try again.
You can try and disable antivirus if you have one.
You can try right click on C:\ in My Computer - Properties - Tools - Check for Errors now, you may have to restart.

Hi,
I'm very surprised that deleting intrface.bbw and mysetup.dk didn't solve the problem. I've seen (what appears to be) this issue dozens of times over the years, and this has always worked.
If you have the patience for another reinstall, just make sure you fully delete the BB folder first, and it really should work. If that doesn't do the trick (or if you prefer not to go through the process again), please give our tech support number a call tomorrow. We'll figure it out.
The number is 1-866-983-2474, we'll be around 10AM-5PM (same time zone as you).
Thanks Kent PG Music.

Since it didn't work at first, but did work later, I wonder if something was cached. Perhaps rebooting the PC is a required step after deleting those two files?

Hi Matt,
I've never known this fix to require a reboot, it's always worked right away as long as BIAB was closed when the files were deleted. Those files contain most of Band-in-a-Box's settings, and the program would behave strangely if they were cached anywhere.
The only time I've seen this not work the first try is if there were two Band-in-a-Box installations (one on C:\ and the other on a USB drive), and the files were deleted out of the wrong copy.
Thanks Kent PG Music

Thanks, Kent. Just so you know, I agree. I've used this and no one I can recall has reported here that it didn't work, until now.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
