Friends, Heavy tip on Energy XT as a host for effect/synth routing within PT.. Not a freebie but worth the registration to get extra miles out of Power Tracks. Complimentary plugin that expands the possibilities way beyond. Load as a vsti in PT. It’s a bit sluggish in response but very stable on a quad core. PT can handle it. Modular environment allows elegant loading of multiple synths, vst’s, sequenced in any way you want. Got PT running with XT loaded as a plugin, an organ, church choir and the fine, fine Emily free synth wired parallel at the same time…touch of reverb on the choir. Makes Power Tracks sing like the angels. http://www.energy-xt.com/index.php?id=0200Is this entirely cool or what… Peace, stillness to you all, John Want to abide by the rules here (#7) about not advertising for a competing product, so… Submitting this as a synergy, as a subhost to enhance the recording potential and range of what you can do in PT. Awesome merger.

John,
Seeing as how no-one else has seen fit to respond to your helpful post, I thought I'd take the time to give you a little nod...
As a computer music enthusiast who works in both Linux and Windows, I'm always looking for cross-platform software. Although I deal almost exclusively with digital audio and not with MIDI or VSTi's, for those who do, this looks like it could be a dandy! A long-time user of PowerTracks Pro Audio, I have on countless occasions employed another cross-platform program, Audacity, to augment PowerTracks - as a very capable audio editor and file converter.
Thanks for sharing your findings, and pointing out the possibilities for boosting the performance of our favourite Windows-based DAW.

Oren, Thanks for your reply. A couple more pieces of info about this, because PT can be expanded to run multiple, multitimbral midi commands. Energy XT does a fantastic job. There may be some who want to layer dx effects or dxi synths or integrate them into a vst/vsti mix. There are some real gems of effects and synths only available in dx/dxi format. There are vst to dx converters, but none commonly known that go dx/dxi to vst/vsti. Most new programs are progressive but have abandoned the dx/dxi format. There are only two hosts that I know that will either convert dx/dxi to vst/vsti or directly host dx/dxi plugins. One is payware and one freeware. Payware and a bit fragile, is Console: http://console.jp/en/This opens as a plugin in PT and loads multiple vst’s and dx’s. There is a free, little known shell dx or dxi to vxt or vsti wrapper available from http://www.xlutop.com/buzz/Under “more downloads” get the dx_shell download. Open this as a vst inside Energy XT (inside PT) and you can select favorite dx or dxi effects and synths that are not recognized natively. You can then mix dx, dxi, vst, vsti plugins for complex multilayer sounds all under the control of one PT track. Best, John

John,
I like the second one from the Buzz Machines people! The folks who develop for the Jeskola Buzz project are amazing, and the music they create is right off the scale. A unique cooperative computer music community.
Thanks for two more tools we can deploy with PTPA,
Oren.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
