Hello and I need some help!

I've entered chords for a song:

Verse 1 (Acoustic Guitar Only)
Chorus1 (Acoustic Guitar Only)
Verse 2 (Acoustic Guitar & Bass only)
Chorus 2 (all instruments join in - after a drum fill on beat 3 of the last measure of Verse 2)

Question #1
What I want to do is create a drum fill to begin on beat 3 of Verse 2...so, I have the drum fill to lead me into chorus 2. How do I enter this?

Question #2
How can I made the drum fill more interesting?

Question #3
How can I create a more interesting guitar solo for a couple of lines in the Chorus #2?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Please see my answers below.

Whatever bar your chorus starts at, click on the bar number and it will turn blue; if clicked a second time, it will become green; a third click will set it back to normal (for most styles). These coloured boxes around the bar numbers are called part-markers and instruct BIAB to play a fill before them. There is no control over whether that fill will start on beat 3, though. The song needs to be regenerated after adding part-markers.

For example, say your chorus begins on bar 16. Click 16 and it will turn blue. Now regenerate the song and a fill will be present in bar 15. The difference between the green and blue part-markers is that the green setting tells BIAB to play an accompaniment with slightly more movement until it meets a blue part-marker.

Try using the green partmarker.

I need to know how you create your solo at the moment so I can answer this. Also what is the number of the Realtrack that you are using for your solo?

Noel

Thanks Noel for your reply and suggestions.

One last question if I may...

On the intro of my song I want 1 of the guitars in the arrangement to play a little lick...how would I go about notating what I want the guitar to play?

I'm aware that I need to click the notate icon, but how do I get a specific instrument to play the notes that I've just notated?

Thanks again for your your help.

Paul,

If the guitar that you want to play your lick is a Realtrack (the track name will be in green), it is not possible to get it to play individual notes so whatever one notates has no affect the notes played. (Realtrack notation is a transcription of what the musician played when making the track. It doesn't control what the track plays. It's included in BIAB as a learning tool so that people can learn musical ideas from experts.)

If the guitar track you are using is MIDI (the track name will be in yellow), then it's possible to change the notation that BIAB generated and the MIDI will play those notes. After changing the notation, though, it's necessary to freeze the track so that your changes are not lost the next time the track is generated.

For ideas on using the notation editor, have a look at the 6:17 video called "Entering Notation In Band In A Box" at the below link. It's in the Beginners section.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
