I have a dell Insperion 15 7000 that I am installing BIAB on. I want to be able to play it live on my pa as I add fill ins etc from keyboard. What cables do I need to get stereo output? How do I hook this up?

I’m running BIAB on a high-end Dell XPS laptop. For the longest, I used the mini audio jack, with no major issues, straight to the mixer and on to powered speakers. Sound was always clean. However, I’d hold my breath, thinking it might break, because that jack seems so fragile. Recently, I started using a PreSonus “Fire Studio Mobile” interface. It runs off of the firewire port on the laptop, with cables from the interface to the mixer. The sound is much improved to my hearing. But, it’s more stuff to carry, with more wires and clutter. You’ve got to place the interface somewhere, since it won’t fit on the stand, where the laptop sits. The interface has its own AC power cable.

I recommend a USB to Audio interface. - They usually have broader bandwidth than the headphone jack
- They don't make static if you bump them and aren't fragile like those mini phone jacks/plugs - the Edirol UA-1A that I bought back in the stone ages of USB-1 still works today with the built-in Windows drivers
- They are inexpensive
Better sound and more reliable? What's not to love about that? Insights and incites by Notes

Presonus Audiobox USB is what I use. Just shy of $100. 1/4" out of that into the mixer. I'd highly recommend it.

+1 on using the the USB out with the Edirol UA-1A. Sounds a little better than the headphone jack and seems quieter.

Took Norton's advice and tried a USB interface and I could certainly tell the difference. I already had a Steinberg UR12 USB interface that I got for my Cubase Elements and I changed over to that from the stereo headphone jack and a real difference. I will be carrying that from now on to my gigs. Even made my Roland CM30's sound great, full and big.

The following may be helpful
Live setup i use for backing tracks is an ipad with the SoundCue App to stage my wav files i typically export from biab/rb/logic. All my tracks are mono at this point.
SoundCue lets me order them so I can get some basic set lists done at home.
I take the audio out from the ipad to a Whirlwind PCDi box ($130) which then goes xlr to the board. the whirlwind box keeps all everything in balance.
I'm a bit anxious about hauling even my cheapest laptop to a gig. Plus the interface is quick. hit a button off we go. Less dead time on stage messing with a computer.

Insights and incites by Notes Bob, Since day one I have been using just the mini jack out with no issues but when you say "better sound" those are the magic words. With this said can you please provide a pic of your set up with your Edirol UA-1A setup? It may be time for me to change. Thanks!

Yep... USB audio interface and the appropriate audio cables.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
