Hi all,

although I am on "holiday" I keep peeping in this
forum. Icelander's version of "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring"
reminded me of my version I posted 5 years ago and reposted it nearly 2 years ago.
But I think it's worth listening to it every two years. In this way you all know I'm still alive.

Cantata 147

Happy Easter and keep on rolling

Guenther..I've been away from the forum for a while and wondered if you were still 'alive'...always enjoyed your work...this is very beautiful, and a craftsman-like inspiration for me--a real gem of creative work! The vocal elements are lovely, and the style change-ups really work--Bach is timeless! I'm so glad you re-posted it, very timely as we approach Easter. Thanks again!

Guenter,

It is always good to hear from you! You (and your music) are missed...

Nice to revisit this one. Love when the guitar comes in...

Hoping you will some day return on a more regular basis and let us hear what you are working on these days...

Hello, Guenter

Really nice reposting!
It was Swingle Singers' version that I heard Bach's cantata 147 for the first time.
So, I have loved your version that reminds me of Swingle Singers.
I entirely agree with floyd.
I am also hoping you will some day return on a more regular basis and let us hear what you are working on these days.

Best regards.

I am really glad you posted this again! I would have never gotten the chance to listen to it if you hadn't! It is such a beautiful song, and has such a lovely feel to it. Perfect for spring! I wasn't expecting it to have a more rock sound near the end, but I really like the modern genre progression and development throughout the song! Super cool.

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,
Ember

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Great to hear from you! Regarding the song I'll repeat what we said on SC when you originally posted it:

Stunning!

And it still is. Remarkable.

Guenter, Welcome back!

We've certainly missed some of your masterpieces.

This review is certainly timely, and still just as enjoyable.

Wow - what a tune! You absolutely nailed the harmonies on this. I can't believe how lush and full it sounds. And just when I think I have the song pegged, it starts taking all these unique twists and turns. This simply put just an incredible piece of music. It is so unique, so creative, so lush, and so well produced.

You should be very proud of this - not a thing I'd change! Thanks so much for sharing smile

Guenter,

It's fantastic to see your name pop up in Users Showcase again! I've missed your amazing contributions to the forum. Those remixes, your arrangements of classical works, your jazz creations, your orchestrations and your boundless creativity were always a highlight for me! I hope life is treating you well smile

By the way, I agree with you, your version of "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring" is definitely worth listening to every couple of years (and even more regularly than that!). It's a magnificent piece and your adaptation of it is one of the best. As I probably mentioned a couple of years ago, but I'm too lazy to hunt for the post and double-check, this arrangement reminds me of the original Swingle Singers. (I'm a huge fan of their work.)

By the way, as I sit here thinking about the title "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring", I find myself wondering who came up with it. Was it Bach? It's pretty awesome as far as titles go!

Take care,
Noel

P.S. I've just had a shot or two of whisky so I hope the above makes sense smile

Hi Noel,

thanks a lot. I love your reviews.

The original title is "Jesus bleibet meine Freude" ("Jesus will stay my joy") written by Salomon Franck.
He was a German lawyer and poet. His texts are the basis of most of the cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach.
No idea who made the translation.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
