C half diminished with a #2. Or a C minor 7 flat 5 with a natural 9 would work too.
What is the keystroke for that? (I'm trying to put in some Tom Harrell tunes)

THANKS!

C half diminished = C, Eb, Gb, Bb and already has a sharp two in it in the form of the b3 there. But as a convention we don't use "sharp" for the two in most instances of fake chording.

I haven't heard the target tune, but I'd almost bet that what you are really looking for would be the C7#9 chord.

Try it and see.

If not, the C half diminished by itself should work, you might add whatever note extra that really is in the Melody track as it may be a shared Melody note.

To get a D natural in there, you might try EbmMaj7/C which in closed position would yield, C(bass), Eb, Gb, Bb, and D

Mac,
Yeah, that's the sound I want. Ebminor with a major seven over a C in the bass. The way aebersold notates that on the Tom Harrell CD would be C Half Dim, #2. It's easier to read than EbminMaj7/C.
What I would like is this:
CØ#2

Is this possible?

Cm9b5 - try with Pnosimp4.sty and see all wanted notes show up on the Piano track.

I can't see that "#2" as being a D natural at all...

Martin has another very good idea, there, try it also.

Mac,
it's different ways of thinking about the half dim chord. Some people play a C major scale for a Bø. Some people play an A harmonic minor scale for Bø. The Tom Harrell Bø#2 chord would have a C# in the scale and the scale would be a D jazz melodic minor, or D, E, F, G, A, B, C#, D. That's where the C# comes from. The sharp 9 (in Bø) would be an D natural, but the note I want is C#, or the sharp 2...
Ya dig??

Anyways, is there a way for me to get a symbol like this in BIAB:
Bø#2

Thanks!

Standard scales for half diminished chords are locrian and locrian #2. Should the otherwise redundant notation of Xø#2 emphasize the use of a locrian #2 scale? What's the tune you're after?

BIAB wants the CHORD defined, for accompaniment purposes and not the mode or scale that one might play over that chord while improvising.

That said, "Xø#2" isn't in the BIAB chordlist at present time.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
