Around 1968-69 I was in a Hammond B3, drum and guitar trio. We were playing a lot of lounge music back then. With YesterYear I tried to recreate that trio sound we had. You know the type, a late night blues jam where you hope that Leisure Suit Larry finally scores so you can pack up and go home.

On a side note this Thursday I go in for some minor right hand surgery to correct a “trigger thumb”. Actually right now it is difficult for me to even hold a pick. To those fellow musicians I have promised parts it’s gonna take 3-4 weeks before I can get to them. Sorry for any inconveniences.

I like it Mario. What did you use for the B3?

I wish you well on your surgery.

Hey Mario,

I played in a trio with the same instrumentation for many a moon, coincidence man. With that said I really liked your efforts on this tune as the feel really brought back some fond memories.

Regarding the surgery, or as some old cats I know use to say "going under the knife” best of luck to you.

Hurry back man!

Great song & sound Mario, sets a wonderful mood.
I've never heard the expression "Leisure Suit Larry" - that's very funny. I think they were called "Safari Suits" over here. Whenever somone has a 60s/70s fancy dress party they come out of the woodwork.
And No.... I never owned one.

Hey, good luck with the surgery too.

Cheers,
Keith

Nice smooth track that builds beautifully, Mario.

Would maybe bring the bass up a little, unless that’s just a line of LH organ I can here down there.

Hope that trigger condition is on the mend Mario, before you get a gun in your hand!

Good luck with the surgery, Mario.

Very bluesy piece and VERY late night

BTW In the UK, we call them Lounge Suit Lizards!

Nice work Mario. Great guitar work, as usual. I think I'm getting GAS again. Been looking at one of those Rondo guitars with the bottom cut off and wow stick. This is the kind of music I like and that guitar will give me the surfing and blues club sound I want. Will show it off when I get it.

First thank you all for wishing me well on the surgery. The surgery went well and now my right thumb is fully bandaged so I can’t use that hand at all. What a pain it is typing with only my left hand

Also thanx for the kind reviews. I really appreciate them.

Don I used NI’s B4II for the B3 sound. I you want it grab it quickly as NI has just discontinued it.

Danny I really enjoyed those trio days. We would jam for hours!

Mglinert, the bass notes are played via the B3 pedalboard, thus they are softer and not as “jazzy” as a string bass player would play.

Glad to hear the surgery went well.

Nice laid back tune. Great chops.
If only the drummer could loosen up a bit

Good one Mario.

That's a fun listen. Sounds like you were getting off on that organ sound. It is nice and full. I've got one called Charlie that 's set up for jazz or rock and fast or slow. I've got a bunch of cheesey organ sounds to which I like too.

Glad to hear your hand is on the mend. I'd like to have a surgery, maybe put Tommy Emanuel's fingers on where mine are!
I missed out on that whole leisure suit era, don't know what I was doing then - was that the 70's??

Mario,

Glad to hear the surgery went well.

Love the tune - I was drumming in a small band back about that time - playing the same style - it brought back some good memories.

Take care

Thanx Pete and Powderman for listening and the kind words.

Pete, I believe that the “leisure suit” era coincides with the disco era.

Mario,

I'm sitting here drifting and dreaming as I'm listening to Yesteryear. It's a beautiful song. I really enjoy hearing to your guitar playing. Your sense of musicianship shines. My only negative comment is that the bass sounded a little quiet to my hearing. That could be me, though.

Thank you for such an enjoyable listen.
Noel

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
