Answered my own question. I didn't realize that the Sonivox SoundStage is a one channel vsti instrument and it has to be entered as a plug in for each part. It works in Real band but Bb only supports one vsti synth at a time{grone}.

Hey JMatt,

I too have struggled with finding a great sounding VSTi that is Multitimbral and is GM compatible. After buying many sample libraries that were NOT GM compatible, I was considering the Keytron SD2, which had good demos and was rated highly by a lot of users here. But I really didn't want to buy a sound module.
2 weeks ago, a buddy helped my find a wonderful Product by Vir2 called "Vi One". Here is the address>

http://www.vir2.com/4DCGI/vir2/products/vione/index.html?1198

Awesome sounds, less than $200 and seems to do everything I'm looking for. I haven't bought it yet, but I am on the fence and thinking about it. Let us know if you do get it!!

Hope this helps,
Ed

Ed,

I too would like to hear how this products works with BIAB as the demos on their site are indeed very good. Please keep us posted.

yes, I confirm, Vi One is absolutely OK with BIAB. Vi One works "inside" NI Kontakt Player, so the vst to choose is NI Kontakt Player.dll.

Then, choosing the multi "GM" module in Vi One, you will have the "right" instruments at the right place. The quality of the sounds is, on the whole, very good, of course with some highs and lows, anyway better, IMHO, than VSC.

Ciao!

Hey Alfstone,

Great info! Thanks so much. Just one question>

How would you compare the actual sounds or patches to Cakewalk Sonar TTS-1? I find many people using this VST for BIAB.

Thanks,
Ed

Hola Edoardo!

Well, I haven't TTS-1, but as far as I know it's very similar to the Roland family of Sound Canvas and Hyper Canvas: the look of TTs-1 is exactly the same of Hyper Canvas, so it's likely that the sounds too are very "near".

Vi One, in my opinion, gives you something more as sound quality. It's also full of hundreds of different instruments, but inside BIAB the only logical way to use it is by the GM module. This means that all the other sounds of VI One, many of them really great, aren't available (as far as I know...) in BIAB. Of course you will have them, if you want, for further editing with different DAWs.

Ciao!

If you buy Vi.one from Musiciansfriend or Guitar Center ($99), you can get a rebate for a free copy of First Call Horns.

Now, I'd be happy about this and would buy it myself, but I already bought it. In fact, it's still sitting in a bag, in the box and uninstalled. I bought it about back in late October, before the November 1st start date for the rebate offer. It's now past the 30 day return date too.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it, when I clean up my computer....I'm just going to miss getting First Call Horns...

TTS-1 and Hypercanvas are the same, pretty much. But they just don't sound good to me anymore.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
