A vocoder is typically used to manipulate a vocal sound. But I don't sing, so I mangle everything else I can find with the plugins I have... The vocoder provided the the initial texture that I wrote this to. Even though it's drums being processed, it had a basic F minor tonality that pushed me in that direction.
This one uses the new Waves plugin called OVox on two different drum tracks, built from the BB drums; screenshot below. You can hear the two vocoded part clearly in the intro. They come and go in the background while the unprocessed BIAB track continues.
BIAB provided the bass player via the VST plugin on a Studio One track. 2284 Bass, Acoustic, BossaRon 464 Bass, Acoustic, Bossa Drums are BossaBrazilPercAlex^1
Synth Pad is from the VST instrument Xpand!2, “Beneath The Waves”
The Muted Trumpet is from the Studio One Presence instrument. I transformed some of my guitar playing with Melodyne into the trumpet parts.
The guitar is an ES-335 recorded direct through the Waves SSL Channel.

Very polished and professional sounding production. Super clean sound with a great "studio" lounge vibe to it. Excellent guitar work with flair and verve. Excellent track!

Wow - really interesting! Loved the groove on this, and found it to be an engaging and unique piece. Definitely catches your attention, and the guitar work here is top notch also.
Wow, wow, wow! This is great! Wonderful production, however, I didn't hear the trumpet part that you're talking about. No matter. I enjoyed it very much.
Professional sounding, clever tricks used in the soundscape to create an interesting instrumental. I enjoy the melancholy mood and cinematic jazzy Latin groove. I would really enjoy spending time in a café if this was playing in the background.

Thanks, Janne. I appreciate your comments. You never know what might inspire a new idea. For this one, it was running a drum part through the Waves OVox plugin to see what it did. I don't sing, so I'll process anything to see what happens. It was cool enough to inspire the song because the drums took on a chordal tonality.

Ray, great groove and sets up the perfect bed for your fine tasteful playing. That 335 sure sounds good! I have always regretted trading my 1966 335 for a junker steel but I had the bug. This is fine piece of jazz and sounds fantastic. Tom
Oooo, yes, that 335 sounds great in your hands, Ray. Great flowing lines and wonderful tone. The muted trumpet adds another interesting layer of sound, especially with the interplay of guitar. Loved it!

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
