Hi Berntd,
This Forum is for end users. We do know that PG Music staff sometimes step in with helpful advice, but there is no guarantee that they will review every thread. They might step in, but my additional suggestion is to contact them directly, through their support email, and reference this thread.

I do hope this helps and that you can resolve your issue.

Regards,
Trevor

Hi Berntd.

With the specific thread opened, just copy and past the URL from the top of your browser into an email.

You can use the following if you wish. Select the entire following string, right-click and select Copy, in your email to PG Music support, right click and selected Paste:

https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=596253&gonew=1#UNREAD

Separately, I will also send a support email to PG Music on your behalf, referencing this issue and this thread.

Good Luck (again)

berntd,
just a thought...
Recently I had issues with BIAB playing and failed renderings. I tried switching drivers, etc. Nothing helped. I did factory settings reset and that solved it.

If it was not suggested earlier, maybe try it? It takes less than a minute and it does not involve reinstalling software. If you want to give it a shot:
Options->Return to factory settings.

One other thing you can try is loading Windows with minimal set of driver/program load and see if issue persists. Also upping the buffer on Asio4All...

Good luck.

Your initial post shows your computer has 136 active tasks - this is far to many - a well trimmed win 7 computer only has between 45 to 55 tasks running. It does not have time to do justice to Biab. Why have chrome running at the same time? close it. What else is running unnecessarily? Stop all programs you are not using. See if that makes a difference.

Yes, I thought this might be the case. That's why I earlier asked: "What happens if you don't load any VST's at all? Does that make a difference?"

No, hang on, I may have misunderstood that at the time. That was related to the resource testing. I did that by killing the running VST in task manager and it did not fix the issue. I replied to that further up.

This problem is a bug of sorts. I suspect something that should not, is sending rubbish on MIDI and Cakewalk is reacting to it.

Can you reproduce it?

Further testing progress:

With the problem invoked in Blue Skies, as above, I added a Melody with a few notes. This Melody is MIDI and uses the Cakewalk VST.
As soon as the first melody note plays, the problem stops and it works normally thereafter.
This also seems repeatable at the moment.

I tried your files in your order and could not find a fault - even tried adding an intro and changing key but everything worked fine. I still beleive that your processor has to much going on. Give the processor an even chance and I think it will work - could try resetting biab to factory defaults.

Hi Keith, did you test it with the CakeWalk VST?

I agree. As well as the VirtualMIDISynth, SQLSERVR is also running, taking a fair chunk of RAM (about 250Mb). If some of those processes didn't need to run, the system might perform better.

Further findings:

I am looking at the MIDI monitor

When I first load blue skies and it plays correctly, only a couple of MIDI messages occur at the start Then nothing as it uses Realtracks.

After following m,y sequence to get it to go crazy, heaps of MIDI messages start flying.

All coinciding with the rubbish I can hear.

See attached.

What does that mean?

EDIT: When I play the song at a really slow tempo, I can see and hear those MIDI messages causing the clicking and noise in the music.

Three important questions:

1:
Where did the source of Blue Skies come from?

2:
Did you create it only using RealTracks or download if from a separate source?

3:
Do you have automatic RealTracks / RealDrums substitution enabled?

Hi Trevor,

Answers...

1 I entered it myself completely.

2 Realtracks on my PC but experimented with various styles.

3 Substitution is DISABLED at this stage.

I have also RE-ENTERED it completely and it becomes exactly the same.

Regards
Bernt

Berntd, OK, Thanks for clarifying.

Do let us know if PG Music support come back to you, and how it is resolved. This could assist others in the future.

Thank you Keith. Greatly appreciated!
I have no idea why there are those MIDI messages occurring over here.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
