As far as I know, I can import an entire Midi File to the Melody Traks and than split it to Soloist. Now I see that I can import the Melody Track of a Midi file to a Utility Track. What can I do to import all the tracks of a Midi file and split it to the different Utility Tracks, channel by channel?
what are you trying to do? regular forum users will know that i will say its probably much easier in RealBand. your midi will open on separate tracks. and then you can change the instrument, edit individual notes. replace midi tracks with different midi performances from a suitable BIAB style. add RealTracks. whatever you want.
In what sense? The question about MIDI was about splitting the instruments. If you are only asking if you can move an audio track to a utility track, then yes.
And, welcome to the forum.

Thank You Blake, I cannot find any MIDI Import dialog. I tried "Import Melody from MIDI File" and I find a new utility track in the Mixer but as soon as I try to play the song, the system crashes.
Apart from the program crash, sometimes I find very strange behaviour like: tempo control very different from the midi file in mixer patches, no information notation of utility track not always shown in notation window track silent for a while, than ok and later again silent mute and solo button in mixer work random
With some Midi files it works, with some others I do get Access Errors - seems to be work in progress.
An example MIDI file would be much appreciated.
Hi Blake, this is an example of a midi file that used to crash B2021(803) on import, it does not crash BB2021(804), though.
The file plays ok when opened via BiaB, however import is botched with BB2021 - albeit BB2021(804) does not crash, it does not receive any data or play any data when importing this file.
Follow the numbers below and that should allow you to do what Blake is saying.
I'm running BIAB 2021 build #803.
After you open the midi import options (#3), you'll need to navigate to a midi file and load it. The second window with #4 and #5 will then show and allow you select what destination track (#5)you want to place the file's midi channel (#4).
Thank You very much to all of you for your support. But I am completely lost. Nothing is working in BIAB 2021 as far as midi is concerned. I used the Open Midi command and the Import Melody from Midi File command and what happens in Melody and/or Utility Track is completely out of control. I tried to return to factory settings as well as uninstall and reinstall BIAB, without any improvement. Did someone of you really used those commands with BIAB 2021? I have been using BIAB for more than 10 years and never had problems. Now I am on BIAB 2021 804 and Windows 10 last update. What else can I do? Best Regards to all of You.
There is a problem. I cannot get "File | Open Special | Open MIDI file" to work and neither can I get "File | Import | Import melody from MIDI file" to work.
What does work for me is to simply use the "File | Open" command. This loads the MIDI onto the Melody track and it plays fine. From there, I can transfer the MIDI data to other tracks but strange things happen when I listen to the MIDI on the track that I've transferred it to.
I've reported this to the development team so, hopefully, a fix won't be too far away.
Hi Noel, I confirm that I am already running build #804 and that "File | Open Special | Open MIDI file" and "File | Import | Import melody from MIDI file" do not work at all.
The"File | Open" command seems working as with previous BIAB releases, but I have founded some new problems: 1 Some track/channel are not shown in the Melody sequencer, mainly Drum related. The problem appears randomly with different MIDI Files. 2 In the Melody Sequencer the option "Play None" does not work. Tracks are always playing. 3 When moved a Track from Melody to Utility, the relevant notation windows does not highlight the played note and the option "show note names" is not working.
I really think that the MIDi behaviour of BIAB 2021 should be completely revisited.
Thanks for adding the extra information. The Development Team will see what you've noted because I gave them the URL of this thread. So if there is anything else you've like to say, please add it to this thread.
Rest assured it will be given high priority because MIDI is very important to Band In A Box.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
