The price and quality of midi files seems to vary significantly on the web.
Often it seems there's no real relation between price and quality. Good ones are sometimes free and lousy ones can cost $10 or more.
Certainly there are millions of them, for about every song.
With the help of this forum I would like to winnow through the chaff if possible.
Can members recommend some sites online that consistently provide high quality midi versions of songs.
I don't mind paying people for their work, I just expect them to do a better job of it than I could.

Honestly MrGeeze, I think you hit the nail on the head by stating:
"Often it seems there's no real relation between price and quality. Good ones are sometimes free and lousy ones can cost $10 or more."
That does seem to be the way that it is. For me, I've got the time, so I look literally worldwide for free ones and use top quality antivirus, anti-malware etc. I may get 10-12 different files and then I go through each one finding the best, maybe copying a riff from one and plugging that into another in RB or a DAW.
But like I say, I've got the time to do this. I know of no one site that offers radio perfect MIDI's
YMMV.

Midi-Hits.com is a pretty amazing site. The tracks do cost typically under $10, have all of the parts separated. Also, the parts are REALLY well done in my opinion.
At different times of the year they do offer discounts, AND usually offer quantity discounts.
Hope that helps.

C, Thanks. I took a look around the site. Certainly a few to try.
Right now I'm reworking my existing version of "Cissy Strut" by the Meters. Unfortunately that kind of bass/guitar lick based funk is something I've not had much success with using BIAB. Without that hook its just any other funk tune in C.
My existing purchased track is just too bass/bass drum heavy. I don't really want to pay the guy for the stems, so I thought I would try midi. Its not a particularly hard tune to play
Unfortunately midi-hits doesn't have it. So I'm off to search through the morass of the internet.
Again, thanks.

Anything by DB Barnes, also known as Darrel Barnes is top notch. He did mostly Beatles tunes and they are very authentic and professionally done. They are mostly free and can be found in internet searches. "Oh Darling" is a particularly complex arrangement. The midi files are optimized to be played with the Roland Sound Canvas patches.

An alternative for Cissy Strut" is to write out the famous bass/guitar lick on the Melody and Solo tracks. Add some funky drums and your pretty close. I assign a bass and organ to these tracks and play the riff on the guitar.

Frank, I was surprised that searching did not provide any useful midi files, free or otherwise.
I figure I will do pretty much what you suggested.
Thanks

https://freemidi.orgFree, most are decent quality. Can search by artist, song title, genre, etc. Steely Dan files are excellent, every detail is captured, almost as if they sequenced the files themselves!

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
