Hi All,

I "upgraded" to BIAB 2021 a few weeks ago after sticking with 2016 for years. Right now I am not sure that was a great idea.

I currently have this problem: I open BIAB, choose a style, enter chords, select a tempo, etc. All that works fine. I then save the SGU file. If I then close BIAB, and re-open that same SGU... all the work I had done is gone. I am back to having the C chord in the first measure of the first bar, and nothing else.

I believe this started happening after I started a new song in BIAB and, without saving immediately, I went into the Style Picker and loaded the chords associated with that sample. I then modified the chords and clicked Save. BIG mistake. That actually seems to save the song sample with the new chords to wherever the sample is taken from. Anecdotally or otherwise, this seems to be when the problem started.

I run BIAB off the shipped hard drive. I have run Setup twice: once before this problem occurred, and once after. The software is activated.

Thoughts?

Thanks for any help!

Paul

It does indeed sound as though you possibly saved the file twice.
Once as a blank file (just 1 C chord) with your required file name, and a second time you replaced the demo song file, probably in the Demo songs folder location.

Start again.

Create a simple song.

Select Save (or Save As) and note carefully where this is being saved to (exactly which folder and file name).

Then restart the program and load that song. Navigate to the same folder that you saved the song in. Does the correct song load?

Paul,

If you blanked out the chords on a style for a demo song, post the name of the song or style. One of us maybe able to send you a replacement.

I will give it a shot, thanks!

But I am curious how to fix the problem of explicitly doing a File-->Save As to folder X, thinking the SGU is saved in Folder X, and then opening the SGU from Folder X and having the SGU be completely blank other than the 'C' chord. These are the steps I have already taken!

I believe it is _SELECT3, a Reggae style. I will check for sure tomorrow!

Thanks for all the help!

Short answer: problem fixed.

Long answer:
The only way I was able to fix it was to install BIAB onto my laptop hard drive, as opposed to running it off the USB drive. Not what I wanted to do, but who said life is fair?

Oh, and those songs I had saved and then re-opened and only found the 'C' chord in the first bar? Magically now all the song information I had saved (chords, tempo, song style, etc) are present in the SGU file upon opening.

You would think the option to 'run off USB drive' would make BIAB be independent of the PC/laptop it is running off, but apparently that is not the case. If you choose 'run off USB drive', even during installation it will try to install various items to your C: drive. And if you talk with the 'chat' people they will say 'yes, if you run BIAB on a different machine you will have to re-install.'

The Style I saved over was _SELECT3. However, I CAN now load the _SELECT3 song sample chords, and even using the chords I saved it seems to be working fine.

Thanks for all help!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
