Trying to make Biab do what it promises. I generate a solo in a fast song and wanted to follow the soloist playing. Thereby saw this option in notation window options to highlight the notes played in red for usefull. Yet Biab does not what it says :-( Is there anything the user can mismanage with this simple checkbox functionality? It did not work for me also after RTFSsing.
Is that working for anyone??
thanks for your advice.
One more: Is there a way to make the bar marker a little more recognizable. The bar markings while playing a song back are so indistinctable moving from bar to bar with a light red or blue frame around the current bar, that I can hardly see where the song is at the moment. Anything that can be set somewhere that makes is better?
Thanks for your help!
Cheers Stefan

at least the Notation Window Options - "Highlight playback notes in red" is working when you switch off the Fake Sheet Mode on top of the notes sheet. The notes are highlighted perfectly.
I will open a feature request to make the bar marker more recognizable.
Cheers Stefan

I'm glad you found a setting to highlight playback notes in red.
It is unfortunate that when a program has so many settings to personalize how it works that each settings can have unforeseen consequences when used. That's one reason why I dislike big software updates to essential software I regularly use like Windows 10, LibreOffice and Cakewalk by BandLab. After the update it always seems like it takes about six months for me to adjust the settings to personalize a program to fit my needs.
At least with Band-in-a-Box each time you change settings you can store your new settings as a Preference file by going to the sub menu bar > Options > Save Preferences As ... and saving a new file or overwriting an existing file.
I've created my Preference file and it has saved me a LOT of grief. I've made it a habit to use the Return To Factory Settings option then load my Preference file every time I update Band-in-a-Box or the program starts acting funny. It takes less than a minute to perform these actions and I firmly believe I've saved myself hours of frustration.
Yep. Quite the utility knife. It will do anything but it does create a hole in any pocket it's stored in. Be careful what you ask for; you just may get it.
Very nice comments and wisdom due to lot of sufferings.... ;-)
I can also remember some 20 years back I had a version of Band in a Box and I thought it promises big and seems not overseeable in its function mess even then. Especially with this weird user interface, that did not change to much.
Keep on playing..... Stefan

That issue with highliting notes happens if the melody channel is set to 0 instead of equal to 4. We will add a check to the next patch to auto-fix it as the melody channel should never be =0. In the meantime, you can easily fix it by [main menu]-Edit-Prefs-Channels Melody Channel =4
The Notation Window Options - "Highlight playback notes in red" is working
when you switch off the Fake Sheet Mode on top of the notes sheet.
Then the notes are highlighted perfectly.
but please do everything to make the app more robust.
PS:
I will address one interesting idea to you in the forum about promoting the pasting of complete Chord Charts as a source of sharing songs (without melodies) among us users. The existing feature of copying all the chords you have entered for a song (let´s say the tango Ole Quappa) and simply share it in a forum ment for sharing chord charts easily between the Biab user, seems to me a very valuable, probably well sought after feature for many, many of us. We could save lots of work by asking our musician colleagues if they already went through the work.
How does that sound? We could then share the chords like this......

You could put this idea in the wish list.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
