Using:

Band-in-a-Box® for Windows
Version 2022 (922)
64 bit application

No matter the size or which monitor I use. The style picker opens behind the main window. The main window is now inactive and can't be moved or resized. So I have to use the task manager to end both tasks.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Make sure you have normal mode selected. If DAW mode is selected then Band-in-a-Box is always on top.

I think Jim has it answered.

This is a frequent hazard. The DAW Mode button makes the BIAB window smaller but then keeps it on top. What happens is that the user then maximizes the window, and then gets stuck. You will see a few threads about this in the Wishlist, as we have reported it. User Audiotrack even created a new red button if you think you might do it again.

If it's a DAW mode issue (it probably is) then here's a link to something that will give you a better indicator of DAW Mode.

Guys, I suspect something else here wink. I think this may be another old issue which pops up at time and requires the alt-tab to switch back to the Styles windows (which is hidden behind the non-functional BIAB window) in order to close the styles window before anything is functional on the BIAB window. crazy

Good point Dan, and I don't think anyone has discounted any of the possibilities. Hopefully the O/P can reproduce and validate if it's a DAW mode setting, or if it still occurs without DAW mode. If so, we need to keep looking.

I really appreciate all of the answers and ideas.

It wasn't DAW mode and using alt-tab didn't show the style picker window.

All other windows open on top of the Main Window as they should.

So my frustration drove me to Return MOST to Factory settings [Excluding MIDI drivers and patch maps].

This fixed the problem but now I'm still a little frustrated that I don't know exactly what happened. this was the first time I used BiaB after the last update in April.

BigSugarHopkins Oops I mean Timothy W. Cook,

Thanks for the update. It's great to know your issue is resolved even though, as you said we'll never know exactly what went wrong.

In your very first post there is a button at the bottom where you can mark this topic as resolved. That helps other users when they are searching the forum to resolve an issue.

You mentioned this is the first time you tried to use the program after installing an update. While uncommon it not unheard of for an update to scramble preference settings. One way to minimize this issue is to save preference settings while the program is working as it should and load your preference settings after an update. The screen shots below demonstrate saving and loading preference settings.

Good idea. You'd never know that I was an IT guy pre-retirement.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
