I've been using BIAB for about two decades and something that has always bugged me was the clutter in the style picker. I use it almost exclusively for Jazz and related styles, which means that there are hundreds of styles that I'll never use, that nonetheless clutter the style picker and take up space on my hard drive.
Is there any straightforward way to remove styles from the installation (i.e., both from disk and from the style browser)? Some means of bulk removal (e.g., of an entire genre) would be especially useful.
(or an option to have it all available in a secondary hidden list from which I can move in those styles or categories I am interested in into ordinary stylepicker view/list)
I use BIAB mainly as a study tool, so I use very few styles too. To me, using Band Styles works much better than using the regular Stylepicker.
Remember that you can customize that Band Styles list with the Categories / Styles you want (which is great), and also that you can set Band Styles as default when clicking the Styles icon.
This is a tough question. What is and is not jazz? I’m often surprised by the collection of tracks BIAB puts together, and that surprise can be pleasant or unpleasant. I doubt my interpretation of what is jazz would match anyone else’s 100%. And then there is the indexing by genre. I report during testing any style descriptions I find that are clearly wrong, but most are subjective.
In the case of RealTracks, I can identify what I know I will never use, and just not copy those folders over from the supplied drive. Or I could delete those folders after installation. But styles, with their 8.3 names, are not easily identified. At least they do not take up as much room.
I need to think about this problem more. Melchimm, welcome to the forum. You must be very accomplished with BIAB or very patient to have used it for decades and not post.

Haha. I think it's more that I've just used the parts of the program that I understood and avoided/ignored other parts. For example, I only learned maybe a year ago about the ".", ".b", ".p", ".bp" notation to make various parts drop out. Before that, I'd export the parts to a DAW and edit them as necessary. I'm sure that there's all sorts of functionality that I'm not using because it's either hidden or inscrutable.
Regarding the stylepicker, when I first started using the program (long before RealStyles or even RealDrums existed) there weren't quite as many styles, so it was easier to wade through the available styles. I do tend to use the BandStyles (at least as a first step), but I've noticed that many styles are not listed, or not listed in the correct category there, and the biggest problem comes when I try to replace an individual instrument track (e.g., when a particular instrument doesn't sound right at the tempo I've selected), at which point I encounter a wall of options, very few of which are relevant.
That makes sense, and I understand. I think we all use a subset of the program, because every day I learn something new about it. Most of the time, that happens from reading posts here.
It doesn't solve the larger problem, but you can do what I do, and report to support@pgmusic.com any mistakes that you think exist in the descriptions of a style. Doing this has resulted in patches.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
