critique this biab idea before i post in wish list. i got to thinking that the main chord area be augmented with tabs at the top of it sorta like this ... http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9963/biabidea.gifso you easily can flip tween intro n verses n choruses n outtro etc etc. what do ya think ??

Why not add this wish?
Another way this can be addressed that I like is the Navigator bar in SONAR, where they have a very thin slider (meaning, little screen real estate is needed) that takes me quickly back and forth in a song. Even better is their Marker view. This is particularly good for a control surface, and the Tranzport supports the markers.
But maybe you are more interested in the text headings?

Posts with missing Shift buttons put regularly unnecessary strain on the eyes. Usually I thus refrain from even reading such posts.
Just on this one -> don't steal further real estate. It's already covered by the conductor feature.

matt. its just the way i would prefer to work. yes i like the text idea. actually i'm v surprised people wouldnt like the idea. the conductor feature is not doing things the way my brain would like. i see the comnductor (like a real life conductor) being used AFTER the arrangeing of the different sections are finalised. thus , play intro once, verse 1 once, chorus 1 once, verse 2 >>>outtro etc etc. the concept was to save us folks that think in song sections from haveing to save different biab files for intro n verse n c horus n outtro. i just find the way i suggested more maneageable vs one big chord sheet. i just feel there should be a "named section" feature in biab. where section can be intro or verse or chorus or outtro or whatever.
right now biab is the structure.. song ...bars ....chords/music etc. i feel it should be .. song ...section ....bars .....chords/music

Manning,
I like the tab idea. I'd like to see it taken even further, and (specifically in Realband because I use that more) make tabs available for the various windows you might work in - Tracks Window, Chords Window, Mixer Window, etc.
I think this speaks to the issue of some revamping needed in the GUI. I realize that resources dictate how much and how quickly issues like this can be dealt with by PG. But at some point I think they should spend some time on this. There are hints this is beginning to happen in Realband, such as new color schemes to distinguish different track types, and the new ability to shrink the size of the individual tracks on the screen. I for one really appreciate the new track size (height)feature especially when working on a laptop, as it allows me to gain more useful screen real estate. More features to gain screen real estate in the future would be welcome improvements in the GUI.

multitracker re gui. well generally i'm happy with the way the gui works for me. and particularly like "the backing band" row of buttons idea up at the top of biab. and right clinking on an instrument etc etc. i find i can work fast with ideas. its just this tab/song sections idea i would like to see. to reflect my thought process when i'm thinking thru a song. i tend to think of intro/verses/hooks/choruses/outtro etc etc. but its no biggie cos right now i save the various sections as seperate biab songs. ie if the song is called as i did recently "renegade radio" i have a saved biab song file for "rrintrotalk","rrverse","rrchorus", "rrouttro" etc. then i drop the traks from each into the daw multitrak software.

Hi Manning1, I make most of my songs the same way. 1) Make intro. 2) Make Verse, 1 and 2. 3) Make Chorus. 4) Make Bridge. Then I put them in PT where I want them, copy and paste what I need or remove. For me it's much easier to construct a whole song in a sequencer than in BIAB. I think this works for me from working songs years ago, putting drum patterns together from drum machines. Then doing all the touchup work.
I like the Tabs idea as long as you could turn them on and off. Good idea.

I have suggested over the years that there be two main screens. Develop a song mode.
And play/tweak a song mode.
So you end up with the conductor and jukebox on screen for the playing.
And the stuff for that except the play or play loop is hidden until envoked.
I also am a proponent of laying out songs thus I ABBAC E, where intro is that, each section gets worked on, call them what you want, but simply putting that there means A gets Played then B twice, then A, then the 'extro'.
I've not idea how hard either idea is but it would add polish. And redundancies removed. Too many places to transpose for example. That could easily go under the key box only, with notes to transpose the entire thing, or just sections.
A tab for the mechanics and set up, one for the building a song, and one for playing / juking a song is fine for John, but that's just me and what I have works. Man hours, and costs will determine the rest.

redguitars yes of course the tab idea optional. its sorta the same idea as web browsers with tabs along the top. each tab could be named anything the user wanted of course to reflect the fact that there are users out there that dont often think like us more formal intro/verse/chorus etc arrangement types..ie more freeform etc etc.
frankly as a new user of biab i can find little else that irks me. and i'm still going deep into the biab dir's n song demos n styles n song examples which will prolly take me another month or so. i cant help but wonder how many people have really explored the treasure trove of song examples included with the package. huge value imho.

Yes!!! If we could could easily build sections in the 'normal' fashion it would be so much easier to work in BiaB (well, normal to some of us) .
That's why I go to RB where things make more sense. I can put this section where I want it, that section where I want it, move the other section over there...
The whole 'chorus' concept in BiaB makes it a struggle for some of us whose brains work the other way.. It would be a great option. IMO

Gidday All
I work with the single chorus/chord page concept. A short while ago I tried to raise interest in the "wish list" to add section names, such as you suggest Manning, that could be applied to the chord page and help identify clearly the different choruses, verses etc. Currently this can only be done by designating substyles which of course also in most styles creates drum fills. Negatively . . . kind of a clumsy way of counting bars to identify segments for editing etc.
I'd still like to able to work on the single sheet in BIAB, and save each section separately when completed , and then export each section to RB or PT in whatever order we choose. I think that is where I understand this thread is heading?
Let's say you work under, as John suggests, "Song Development"
So if you work on a single chorus chord page you block a section - bar x to bar y - save it as verse 1, then a tab appears at the top of the chord window that reads "verse 1".
As the tabs accumulate for each new section, you can use the tabs to navigate through the single chorus chord sheet when you need to tweak a section. When you're finished each section, save, then right-click on each tab and have a pop-up menu for the next step . . . export to RB or PT or DAW etc.
Something like that would be great.
Ian

I'd support an idea like this ONLY if you choose not to have it present like the guitar window. Otherwise too much clutter for a crutch.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
