Audio out is more important than audio in, so nothin fancy just rock solid drivers and at least 16 or 24/48khz on the output side. Saw a lexicon alpha for 60 bux. Anyone using it?

Band in a Box only runs at 16/44.1 - just FYI.

As for the specific Make or Model sound device, some people seem to have no troubles with a specified one, others do. For example, I have a friend who uses the M-Audio Fastrack Pro with BiaB, had a bit of trouble getting started out with it, but for over a year now, little Toshiba laptop and he have been making music. Others report problems, though. Seems that different machines and also possibly different Operating Systems may come into play here, so whatever device you are looking at, be sure to do as much rewsearch as you can on the web, lurking forums and looking for whether or not a whole lot of people, not just one or two, are reporting unsolvable problems, with an eye towards the OS and machine you have, of course.

They don't make them anymore, but you can get a Creative mp3+ still.

It's a very small box the size of a deck of cards, a wheel volume control, 2 RCA jacks in and 2 out and digital audio.

It worked on everything I threw at it without drivers, class compliant Mac told me.

I gave it to a friend who's running an Elvis tribute show with backing tracks and his laptop jack was wonky.

Plug and play. No software, no drivers, just rock solid.

Now my Bose does that but it just sits in my basement. I got it for the singing and now I sing no more. I can sort of croak. I guess I figure out which kid needs it most.

I use a Yamaha Audiogram 6 USB Soundcard with my PG Software. It has a nice little mixer for connecting up with. It also has onboard phantom power as well. They also have ASIO drivers on the Yamaha site. Check to see which OS they have updated. I have Vista here and they had the 32 bit ASIO driver for my set up.

Connects via USB cable. Works very well with my keyboard and Biab at the same time, no latency problems etc . . .

Dave,Mac,John,,Trax, thank you all for the help. I settled on a tascam 122mkII. It has the correct drivers for my setup and TS says it's solid with biab in a wide variety of systems.

I think you'll be happy with your choice. That would have been my vote. I have been using a TASCAM US-224 for years. It has been succeeded by the 122. I have no idea why they discontinued the 244; it is a control surface as well as an audio/MIDI I/O.

That's good to hear Ryszard, my mixer is an old tascam from the 80s. It has never given me a problem. But it's much too big to take to gigs so what you are describing sounds like the cats meow.

I have a TASCAM M-106 6 x 4 x 2 analog mixer that I used for many years as the 'brain' of my four-track studio. It appears to have been designed for just that purpose. However, although small, due to patch programmability it is so flexible that I have to keep its flowchart handy.

This one is the same way, the more they do the bigger the learning curve. I'd have do gig the manual out to do a whole session just with it. I mostly use it for routing signals and monitoring. The mixer in digital performer does what today's pro mixers do and more with full automation and endless mix memories of everything you did on the session. Including effects. Those mostly come from a universal audio UAD 1 card in a pci slot on the mac. I couldn't afford the hardware version of one of these effects. Most are modeled on 50 and 60s recording gear made by the father of the guy who does the software modeling of the boxes that live on the pci card.

I've got a few different Edirol models, and they all work well.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
