I have a biab ii-v-i backing track that i been use for awhile that uses MIDI style insturments. I have tried substituting a realtracks style using the style button. The problem I'm having is that both the MIDI style and the realtracks style are playing at the same time when I go t play it. I can't figure out how to remove the MIDI style. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, my apologies, but could some one shed some light on what I need to do?

Look in the styles for the All RealTracks styles and chose from those.

That's what I did. I selected "._JSWINGP" from Jazz[RealStyles] under catagories. When I go to play it, I have it and the MIDI playing at the same time, on top of each other. That's the problem.

Thanks, Robert

Robert,
I suspect BIAB is doing exactly what you have told it to do, and that you may not fully understand what you told it to do. I came to this conclusion based the question and the low post number (you are new to BIAB I suspect).

Nevertheless, you have to understand the difference between Real Tracks, Real track Styles, Midi tracks and Midi Track Styles.

For example, while any style will assign the instruments to the tracks, only Midi Styles tell the instruments how to play. Real tracks are simply recordings and are not effectd by either a Real track Style or a Midi Style.

I'll stop here just in case I am heading in the wrong direction and you already know all of this and you really do have a software problem. Let us know which direction this thread needs to go to solve your problem

Try going to "Preferences" and in real drums and real tracks, check use real tracks instead of midi. Hope that works. Later, Ray

If you choose _JSWINGP, then you will hear all RealTracks for the accompaniment, but you will still hear MIDI for the melody of the song. RealTracks doesn't apply to the Melody, (or MIDI Soloist track), just the accompaniment.

If something different than that is happening, please let us know what you are hearing that is MIDI, other than the melody or soloist track.

Yes, this is what is happening Peter.

How do I go about having a song play using all RealTracks and no MIDI? Or more specifically, how do I edit an existing song to do so?

Thanks,

Robert

There's another box to check under Styles. It's "Auto replace midi midi styles with Real Tracks styles". Later, Ray

OK, good now we are getting somewhere. The answer to your question is provided in the Boss's response. You have to manually insert RT's into the Soloist and Melody tracks (styles be they Midi or RealTracks) will not change those tracks. Just click on the track names on the top row and "assign reatrack). Now, keep in mind RT's will not play your melody. This is not doable with todays technology. so if you want the melody you have to have it via midi - or play it yourself.

Good luck.

Oh, one last thing.. welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it! You've given me enough to go on for now. I'll chime in if I need any more assistance.

@jazzmandan: Thanks for the explanation, the how to, and the welcome... I'm located just north of Chicagoland, in Milwaukee, so were kind of neighbors.

Regards,

Robert

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
