Hi Robert, all of these a great starting points. I hope when this challenge is done you will come back and polish these songs up a bit.

I guess I should qualify by remarks. Writing x amount of songs in y number of days is a great way to push yourself out of your comfort zone and to stimulate your writing processes. However something has to be ignored and that mostly is polish. You have 4 real gems in the rough thus far IMHO. A little polish would take them over the top.

Keep up the good work.

Hi Robert,

I've just had a listen to "I Want To". It's a great, catchy song. To my mind, this is lyric writing at it's best. Good word economy, memorable and makes you feel like you can sing along with them straight way. Congratulations of a wonderful effort.

One thing that occurred to me as I was listening is that this song, to my ears at least, would stand repeating the first verse again. People would love to sing along with it and it really sums up the song so well. I know that, at the moment, rewriting is not on the table because it's all about production. If you ever get back to this one, though, the above is just a thought that might be worth trying.

All the best,
Noel

Robert,

Great job on this one (I Want To)! With the country feel, and the way the steel is working, this one kind of reminds me of another very prolific songwriter, Hank Williams Sr. That puts you in pretty good company in my opinion!

Keep up the great work!

I hope you can take the time to give it a listen. I did something new on this one. I used Automation on the Vocal. Let Me know what you think. Thanks.

Number 28 of the 50/90 Challenge. The way I wrote this one was a little different. I took a biab demo song in the style AG cross sped it up a little and then muted the melody and wrote the lyrics around the backing track. Here is the demo. All of the instruments are midi.

Thanks Steve and Tommy for the feedback. I know now why they call it The 50/90 Challenge. It sure is challenging, but it sure is fun to.

Number 31 is in the books. It is in answer to a 2 instrument only challenge in the 50/90 challenge, it is piano and bass. I have been told by several of you here at the forum that I should try adding vocal harmonies. This is my 1st attempt at it. Low and High part.

In this song I use an alarm clock and phone message beep sound effect. Important Note: No phones or alarm clocks were harmed in the making of this song. The style is Med Rock Bal W Dire Electric Guitar. Bass=518 RD=Nashville ev8^1 SS, Ride. 362 Acoustic Strum Guitar and 508 Electric Rhythm Dire. The song was a little fast for the style, so in a few places the instruments sound like they could not walk a straight line if they were given a sobriety test ha, ha. This is song #34 in my quest for 50/90.

Song 35 is a collaboration. The Lyrics are Geneva Griffin's, I did the music with Biab 2010.5 and the vocal. The piano and the strings are both midi. I created a hybrid style using Bach 1 classical piano style for the piano, and then the Orchestral 4/4 w Harp for the strings. Thanks!

This song is in response to a challenge at the 50/90 site. The challenge was to take one of the suggested lyric lines and use it either as the title or as a line in the song. I chose to make it the title. The only real track used is the solo guitar.

You are really a nice player and a very good singer. All the reason I take your kudos to heart when you compliment me. This song brings to mind a kind of Kenny Loggins meets The Beatles thing for me. And the messages in your songs are clear. Really good stuff!

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

This song I did something a little different. There are no Band in a Box tracks on this one. I actually played the guitar and piano myself. Not at the same time of course, ha, ha. The piano is my Yamaha Psr e203 Played through Reason. The Flat Top is my Takamine Ef341 I mic'ed it using a Samson C01 Condensor Mic. As always with a gospel song it is more about the message. I realized today just how much I love band in a box. lol.

I was not going to do a song today, but then I saw the title of this song in the newspaper and the lyrics just started coming. It is number 49 in the 50/90 challenge. It was not a certain style. It is a swing 8 with realtrack ukulele, bass, harmonica and drums.

Bob, I have been listening to your songs and I must say you are one very versatile songwriter. Your lyrics are great, as is your vocals. “A Photograph of You in my Heart” is my favorite thus far, however it was a tough choice to make.

Keep up the great work.

Ps – how can you write such great songs is so little time?

Thanks MarioD for the kind words. In answer to the question about getting songs done so quickly, Biab is a huge part of it. I am more focused on writing, so now I turn anything I hear that stands out into lyrics. I usually take the idea and type it into a program called Lyricist. I then open the internet to rhymezone. Lyricist has a rhyming dictionary but it is not as advanced as rhymezone, I also open the thesaurus. I then open Biab to start entering chords. A few of the songs I actually loaded the demo song in Biab, muted the melody and wrote the Lyrics around it. When I joined the 50/90 challange, it sounded impossible. But like anything else the more you do it, your mind works even when you sleep. A couple of the songs I woke up singing. I usually write the song the night before and then record the vocals and mix the next. I pray for the words as well. Sorry for being so long winded in reply, hopefully this can help someone new to songwriting.

This is song 52 on the 50/90 challenge. I wanted to make sure I reached the goal of 50 solo songs. 2 songs were collaborations. I may do the last weekly challenge and then I will be done. Thanks to everyone who has took the time to listen to these and for the feedback. Everyone on this forum is always so helpful and courteous. Thanks! I would suggest to everyone next year to sign up and try the 50/90 challenge, even if you do not get 50 done it will keep you writing. Thanks to BIAB, I could never have gotten this done without it.

This is the last of the 50/90 songs I will be posting. It has been FUN! Thanks again for the kind words, tips and encouragement. Pg is my favorite forum of all I go to. This weeks challenge was to take a song that you had not finished or that needed to be worked on and finish it. It was funny about a week before this challenge, I was going through some notebooks and found this song. I wrote it originally at 15 after my girlfriend, who would become my wife had broken up with me. Sadly we divorced after 26 years, so the sentiment is still about the same. The original lyrics had a line that was blasphemous, so I was never comfortable singing this song. . I changed those lyrics and did some other rewriting to get this new version. Thanks again to all!

This is Just To Have You remixed felt like the stereo image needed to be wider, and a little mastering verb added from Izotope 4.

1st of thanks to Mario for asking the question I often thought of but never asked. And thanks for the answer Robert as like Mario, and I am sure many more here on the forum I have always been amazed at your writing skills. Keep up the good work my friend and remember just because I don't always respond does not mean I am not enjoying your work.

Robert, Bob, (our oldest sons name)

You have a true gift with your lyrics and music.
Listened to several more of your songs this morning.

I walk down the lazy side of the street you walk on, but am
behind your efforts 100%.

Think some folks learn by trial and error, but word spoken and
specifically written can do great harm, or great good as your gifts do.

Thanks for sharing your "Gifts" with us all

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
