Hi,

This song is not for everyone. It has no words but is an amazing adventure into how to use the voice as a musical instrument. Like it or hate it, this woman's ability to sell the song stand alone! The presentation also mixes classical instruments across cultures.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNF4siu5vAo

Although the clip is over 7 mins long, this is because of poor recording technique. The song only goes for 3:50.

Enjoy!
Noel

Fascinating. I'd say amazing, but part of the poor recording technique includes that it's mono, and my right ear could've really used some instrumentation separation. That said, yeah, wowzers. You're right, she is something. And such control over her vocal tone!

Oriental Rap Music. Not often I hear something so unpleasent to the ear, not to discredit the singer, it just must be a cultural thing.

I lasted to 2 minute mark. It says (high quality) but I beg to differ.
Different strokes for different folks, unless we got trolled here.

That was funny, Danny.

I like different stuff than most. I spent an hour last night just relaxing to Weather Report on youtube. The live vids were very enjoyable. The tunes from their "8:30" release were especially enjoyable. Reaffirmed how great those guys were as musicians. I enjoyed everything from Teen Town to Black Market to Birdland.

This one was a little too different. I tried.

LOL. That's an understatement!

This bunch makes Yoko Ono sound good!

It kinda makes you wonder if they were trying to sound as bad as they possibly could and then check to see if anyone would still listen.

I wouldn't go that far. Just not for me. People obviously paid to be there, so it sounds good to some.

Not really that unusual if you are familiar with Chinese classical music. This song is a standard rep from the Chinese-opera genre. She is demonstrating some of the spectacular, strenuous vocal techniques that virtuosi in this style have perfected over generations.

I did not hear anyone hear say that this singer did not have chops. I think y'all can appeciate that she's spent years in woodshed. If she followed the traditional path of study for Chinese opera, she was apprenticed to a master at a tender age, has worked assiduously ever since, and continues to do so. In addition to vocal technique, there's acting, dance, acrobatics and other disciplines to master. Even the cross-eyed expression is part of the technique.

Which is not to that the sound is a pretty one. I happen to be a fan, but I understand that many of us find the timbre to be a little too edgy. It is certainly an acquired taste.

But, ... kinda like the Vegas theme...,

What happens in the woodshed should STAY in the woodshed!

I tried not to diss her, just wasn't for me. Very possible it is disciplined, I wouldn't know. I was going on enjoyment value for me, personally.

I can appreciate that rharv, ... but it's okay to say something sucks regardless of how hard it is to do!

Hi Bob,

You said ...

I'm not setting out to be contrary and I've probably misinterpreted your comment due to an inability to read "tone" on forums. How it came across to me, though, meant that I couldn't let it pass without saying something.

I'm a school teacher and I constantly see students put their heart and soul into preparing things that have taken them a great deal of time. Sometimes these things get an excellent result and other times they may not even be passable. As a teacher, my view is always that whatever I personally think of the final product from a grade perspective, it is never OK for me to belittle a student's effort by saying that the product sucks. When someone applies themselves wholeheartedly to doing the best they can, I believe that their effort should always be applauded with praise. That's not to say that I have to like what they do, only that I respect their hard work.

Like you, the music in the clip I posted does not appeal to me personally but I certainly admire the skill and showmanship of the performer and skill of the accompanying musicians. To my mind, it is evident that this woman and all the other musicians on the stage have put a commendable effort into creating this song. In my opinion, this work shines with musicianship on a number of levels.

As I said at the outset of this post. I'm not aiming to be contrary. I simply felt a need to state my perspective.

Kind regards,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
